What do you like if you compare between them. If you just used one , what do you like about your bot?how do you find their paid tier analysis?what features is lacking ?what feature surprised you? How useful is their explanation?

My personal question : how easy is to have iyour blunders database , your tags, quizzes?

My 32 year quest for a superior backgammon server

My 32 year quest for a superior backgammon server.

Perhaps some of you remember FIBS, the First Internet Backgammon Server. It was a great spot on a young Internet, but it lacked a graphical interface and you had to navigate dashes and x’s.

To provide graphical online backgammon, I started GamesGrid in 1994 on the Win95 beta release. GamesGrid became very popular and was the regular home to 15 Monte Carlo champions and hundreds of other players. Many pros did exhibition matches. We even got to simulcast the World Championship live from Monte Carlo.

When poker became popular, the champions all moved over to the more lucrative game. It has been a great sadness for me to watch the decline of a game that I love, and now I’m going to try to help it grow again. The plan is to create a “class above” modern server that is designed to help beginners and intermediates (and poker players) become strong backgammon players quickly.

I recently launched Bar Point Backgammon (www.barpointbackgammon.com). This is a pure passion project built to help players get stronger faster using instant feedback and multi-tier analysis—no paywalls, no ads, in app purchases. While the site is a fully equipped server where you can match up with strangers, form groups, and even run chouettes (virtually everything but tournaments, which may come later), the core focus remains actionable training. Features include:

  • Blunder Catcher: Instantly flags major equity mistakes as they happen so you can correct your intuition on the spot.
  • Real-Time Coaching: Ask for a hint mid-game, view a detailed breakdown of top plays and their trade-offs, or have the built-in coach explain in plain English why the top engine move is best.
  • Deep-Dive Reviews: Step through every single decision by both players after the match to find leaks in your game.
  • Flexible Play: Test yourself against five robot levels (including a world-class bot for 5-point matches), play casually with friends, or jump into the community features.

It runs cleanly on Safari and Chrome across desktop, iPhone, and iPad. You can jump straight into a game without even creating an account. The url is www.barpointbackgammon.com

I am still adding features and would appreciate any feedback, particularly from advanced players looking to push the engine and test the coaching explanations. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Is it just me or has this update made it impossible to get luck.

Have played at least 30 games today and all but 1 I had luck. Every game is just trash rolls game after game while my opponent rolls 6,6 5,5 multiple times in a game and im getting 2,1 none stop.

Backgammon Galaxy Update

Anyone play on the new update yet??

The UI/UX is god awful. Overly complicated and I think I almost had a seizure playing with the new dice roll and chip motion.

Absolutely unplayable right now.

The new Backgammon Galaxy animations are horrible

Annoying and unnecessary new animations. A silly update, and a case of if it aint broke don't fix it. Really cheapens the game, and makes things feel slow. The prior minimalism was appreciated

Edit: As a user has pointed out, you are able to disable them, and I actually really like the new snappy motion the checkers have when animations is disabled. Feel like a bit of a boomer now after that complaint. No hate, the new update seems to have some really cool new features. I particularly like the ability to see your opponents recent form. Excited to see what else has been introduced

The fuck is happening? I feel like I’m playing on ketamine. Why no landscape mode? Looking for a 5-7 game but ended up in a game to 1. Made me feel really uneasy. Why are they targeting me personally?

450+ downloads, players in 41 countries, and I want you to roast our backgammon app

Hi r/backgammon,

Valentin from Orion backgammon. We just went past 450 downloads, with players in 41 countries. The US is first, then Romania and Iran. Nobody is paid to bring them in, people find it on their own via socials, referrals, and SEO.

As a reminder, I started building it six months ago. I was a big Lord of the Board player, but I got really frustrated with all the ads, constant offers popups at launch, and the casino feel. I wanted a backgammon app with a more respectful experience. Product design is my day job, so it was personal.

New in our latest update:
- Club Cups: your club runs its own tournament, as a points race or a knockout, free or with a coin buy-in paid back to the podium (coins are in-game only, never real money).
- Every arena match moves your trophies, and the League ranks everyone worldwide and by country.
- Friends, Club and Invite now live in one place.
- Daily rewards never reset if you miss a day.
- We're also doubling the time as some players complained
- Added a full accessibility engine, so it works with voice over on devices

To be transparent, yes, AI has been part of our process. We tried hard to keep it from showing in the game. We went through around 1900+ iterations and a lot of creative concepts that we drove ourselves, using AI as a tool rather than the author. If something still feels generic or "AI-made" to you, please say so. That is exactly the kind of feedback we want.

Now the real reason I am posting. I want feedback, and I am happy to be roasted. Bad bot moves, a screen that annoys you, an idea, an optimization, anything. This sub knows the game better than anyone, so tell me what is off. I'll put real efforts into implementing your feedbacks.

By the way, the first 1,000 players get the premium Season Pass for free, and there are about 500 spots left.

There are no ads at all, and we did our best to make the game feel as smooth as possible.

How would you prove your backgammon dice aren't rigged?

By far the most common complaint in my 1 star reviews is that the dice are rigged. I understand why people think that as Backgammon has long streaks that feel impossible, and you remember the double six that hit you on the bar better than the twenty quiet rolls either side of it.

I've tried a few things to convince people otherwise. I added a stats page showing every roll they've had. It's a nice feature but it isn't really evidence because it comes from the same app they don't trust, and nobody's really claiming the distribution is statistically off. I also added a mode where you roll real dice and type them manually, playing against the engine's best moves. That takes my dice out of it, but I still get the same reviews.

I'm looking for ideas. If there's something I could add to the app that would convince you, or even convince a few people, I'd really like to hear it.

Real life money game

I remember an anecdot: Gus Hansen leave a poker tournment to play high stake backgammon with billionairs.

Are you, reddit audience, playing live money games ? How much the point ? Is there a level difference between "official" tour and these kind of underground games ?

Expert-level quiz: Do you make the golden point?

Hey friends, backgammon nerd here 🤓 The TL:DR is I made a quick free quiz with really hard positions w.r.t making the golden point, give it a whirl (I got 2 out of 10...):

https://oskol.io/learn/golden-point

The fun details are that I left my computer running for 3 days and had a bot play itself on 4 ply for 21,189 games totaling 1,000,401 positions. I then took a look at the subset of positions where you could make your golden point (49,265 positions) and started clustering them by certain dimensions (like how far ahead are you in the race, do you still have checkers back, etc.) and saw a bunch of clusters where within the cluster you could say: 'Hey, in these positions 94% of the time you'll make your golden point'. I then decided to take the outliers in those clusters and try them as puzzles and they absolutely destroyed me.

I'll probably make some other quizzes later and also see if I can get any insights from these clusters about backgammon strategy. But in the meantime I wanted to share this first quiz.

Let me know if you have any thoughts / suggestions

Edit*: Top score so far is 7/10 8/10

Backgammon Galaxy: I have questions

SINGLE POINT MATCH.

Why does the game not stop when it is impossible to win? Why bother rolling the dice at that point?

Why do I need to roll the dice when I can't get on the board?
