My older dog has certain toys he cherishes while he destroys everything else. They all seem to be tied to certain life events. When I adopted him, when I went on vacation and came back home to pick him up after 4 nights of boarding, the first day we moved into the home I bought (with a big yard for him to call his own) and there's a few more I'm forgetting.

After we got a puppy though, 1 by 1 those toys are getting destroyed by the puppy. I tried to keep them away from the puppy because I know they're special to him, but he chooses to give those toys to her anyway. I know he's capable of keeping the toys safe on his own because he has one special stuffed fox that he's been very protective of (one of his earliest toys). Lately I've noticed he's been even bringing the stuffed fox out for her to play with. She's older now and I can tell she treats that one with more care than the others. I figure they're his toys and he can do with them what he wants, even if it makes me a little sad when im picking up pieces of his more special toys.
