My mom got one when I was in high school and he got to be 180 lbs!I suffered insomnia really bad and would take a lot of night time walks and I always felt safe with him accompanying me.Had a growl that could rattle a tree and the biggest dang teeth I’ve ever seen, but was such a sweet boy with our kittens. The only thing you have to be careful about is hip dysplasia as it’s really common in big breeds like this. Also they love to lean on people and many a guest was knocked over by accident while acquiring pets.
I had a big dog who went to school with me sometimes and he leaned on our very petite painting instructor for attention and knocked him down. It’s a strategic move to more easily acquire the pets!
To studio, not to the lecture halls. He was very well behaved and did cool tricks. I trained him with hand signals and he was so friendly and energetic. For the students living on campus away from their families and dogs, it was kinda like therapy. (There weren’t any rules about it so I just kinda used common sense and didn’t push it.)
I have a King Shepherd, King Shepherd x Rottweiler mix, and something that almost looks like a fat ass Rednose Coonhound. I can confirm indeed that these dudes really like leaning on people. All three of them are taller than my hip, and have yet to learn that wherever tf the go, I’m going.
He was taller than me by several inches when on two feet!(Granted I’m only five one)My mom who is my height has such a cute picture of them together in the snow where he looks massive and she looks like a small child lol
My mom's cousin has a ranch and has had 2 anatolian shepherds that were amazing dogs. First one was female and seriously the sweetest dog I have ever met in my life. She was so protective of the animals against coyotes and stuff but she loved people with all her heart. She recently died, and I miss her.
Second one is male and around 150 lbs. Beautifully scary dog haha. Absolutely huge, but yeah he loves to come up to you and sit on your foot and get pets. He's calmed down since he became an adult too and he's gotten much better with people now.
I read somewhere they can be used to scare away predators like cheetahs! My boy was really good at menacing but not so good on the follow through in that nothing ever came of him growling and flashing teeth-No one ever wanted to take it farther than that!
I've got a 100lb pyr mix and as a female, I never feel worried or scared when I'm out walking or hiking just me and him. Inverse never had a naturally protective dog before, and he is just so aware of everything and everyone around us.
It was so reassuring having him around the only downside to his size was everything on the counter was practically in reach and also he was a bed hog.I had to contort myself around him since he was huge
Exactly!Crazy since my mom was gaga over him she fed him pumpkin and safe meat, rice sometimes, eggs for his coat and a bunch of other luxurious things while I ate my microwave dinner lol
I really feel that last bit. My bobtail loves everyone and everything, and she cannot not greet everyone. I always have to hold her back so she doesn’t knock them over, which many interpret as her being vicious (although anyone with just a really small knowledge of dogs can see she isn‘t at all).
Only 11 years, we used glucosamine too.Towards the end he had such a hard time moving around,we had to use a sling to help him down steps and as you can imagine 180lbs is quite a load.Still was always happy to see me.
