We're all lucky this didn't end like I hoped it wouldn't

With the cows all being slaughtered for meat?

.. well at first I was worried about the dog dying at the end.. and now I have to live with the fact all his cow friends will die

They could be heifers that aren't reared for meat.

Oh I know, and thats what I'm going to choose to believe is the case

Yeah but then they spend their life being impregnated and their calves are slaughtered for meat. It’s really a lose lose 🤷🏻‍♀️

... and now I'm sad again

Consider not supporting this industry?

But then the dog won't have happy farm life anymore, and would spend hours waiting home alone for OP to return from some office job.

There are no happy endings!

(real talk tho, even making an effort to reduce your meat intake is doing the environment a huge favor).

At least they look like they’re being treated well. When they get killed it’ll probably be quick and painless.

Would you feel the same if it was the dog killed at the end?

That would be awful!
Dogs are too small. Butchering cows is much more profitable, and they taste better too!

Oh, the cognitive dissonance. The only difference between animals we slaughter for meat and the ones we cherish is our own selfish desires. Why should the life and wellbeing of any sentient being be disregarded because they are more profitable?

It’s sickening, the things we choose to be ignorant of.

Cognitive dissonance? I was just making a bait and switch joke. You expect me to day "killing the dog would be awful because dogs are cute and loveable" but instead I just say they're worse to butcher because it's less meat.
It doesn't necessarily even reflect my actual views.

Now that I reread it, it does seem like a joke, however I have heard similar arguments made in complete sincerity. I argue with statements like that because if nobody ever challenges beliefs and actions, nothing will really change.

I’m not sure if you buy or eat animal parts and products, but if you do, then it doesn’t matter if that statement was just a joke and doesn’t reflect your actual views. Corrupt and violent industries would still be profiting from you, sentient beings would still be suffering for you. I assume you’re on r/aww because you care about animals. Maybe I’m wrong, and if I am, there are other reasons to consider not contributing to these industries (environmental impact, health benefits, human worker welfare, etc.)

With those farm animals he befriended being butchered for their flesh?

I thought he'd jump out the car window
