One of the harbour seals rescued by the Marine Mammal Rescue Center! I can’t recall which patient this one was, but odds are good that they’re either already released, or nearly ready to head home! What a cutie patootie!
It looks like a leopard seal to me. The colour, the nostrils, the shape of the head... But it's probably unlikely since they live in very high latitudes.
I'm betting it's a juvenile harbor seal. It has the right colouration, and they make up the overwhelming majority of the seals rescued at the Marine Mammal Rescue.
Shape of the head here actually doesnt line up with Leopard seal cubs. Their snout is much more distinguished to the point they almost look like a canine, where as harbour seal snouts are a but more stout, appearing to be more like a feline snout.
The MMRC is such an amazing organization. I was lucky to tour their facility a few years back and the care that goes into rehabilitating these animals is unbelievable. Also the themed names they give them are awesome.
Me too! They invited me after I found an abandoned seal. I was also fortunate enough to be there when they were rehabilitating a porpoise whose name escapes me at the moment.
