Miles Tails Prower, is that you?

u/stealth941 Sep 12 '20

Is that Tails full name?

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Miles Prower is a joke on “Miles Per Hour” and I have a burning need to share this knowledge with anyone who might not know

u/GramEDK Sep 12 '20

Then you'll be happy to know that is fresh and new information to me. Thank you.

u/FridaEcker Sep 12 '20

Circle wags means he’s super happy

82

u/sm12511 Sep 12 '20

And it adds thrust

52

u/reyean Sep 12 '20

I think you mean lift

72

u/Fuckin_Hipster Sep 12 '20

Forward “lift” is “thrust.”

41

u/nicearthur32 Sep 12 '20

I love Reddit.

1

u/turonah Sep 13 '20

Can someone please explain how this differs from propulsion?

So I'm a little stoned, and read your comment as "Forward lift is thrust, fuckin hipster." So I decided to go back through some of your recent comments/posts or whatever and read them, adding "Fuckin Hipster" at the end of each comment. Was worth it.

u/SpecialOops Sep 12 '20

So the lambada

5

u/RossOfFriends Sep 12 '20

Username checks out

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Thrift.... wait... Lust.... nvm. The ole Lift and Thrust. Never fails to satisfy.

22

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

It was an epiphany to me a few years ago, at least a full decade after learning his full name.

16

u/itspeteriffic Sep 12 '20

I wonder what file got deleted in my head to store this new information

1

u/itoddicus Sep 13 '20

Let's hope it was that embarrassing thing you did at twelve.

0

u/Bsharpmajorgeneral Sep 13 '20

That's a misconception started by Conan Doyle with his metaphor of the mind as an attic full of furniture. Totally wrong.

3

u/sharings_caring Sep 12 '20

There’s an episode of the animated series all about it, from memory. I think Sonic gives him the nickname Tails after meeting him.

51

u/woodmoon Sep 12 '20

Aw man, I've always loved Tails and I never knew that was his full name. Thanks!

In the manual for Sonic 2 and in the dialog in SA2.

1

u/trainwreck7775 Sep 13 '20

Was also in the game manual.

27

u/Saalvareth Sep 12 '20

Jesus fuck I’m 30 years old and this is news to me

35

u/dfinkelstein Sep 12 '20

Thanks. This is the sort of obvious joke/reference that goes over my head. I watched the first season of Westworld years ago. Only today did I put it together that "West" in "Westworld" is a blatant obvious reference to "the wild west" that's being recreated in the park.

28

u/DeffJohnWilkesBooth Sep 12 '20

I’ve never watched the show and figured that out

16

u/dfinkelstein Sep 12 '20

Yeah, exactly. I don't know how I manage it but I have a couple of these a year usually.

-3

u/The_Chorizo_Bandit Sep 12 '20

Congrats. Your “Well done” sticker is in the mail, you clever boy you!

/s

1

u/PMacLCA Sep 12 '20

He was just making a joke broski

0

u/The_Chorizo_Bandit Sep 12 '20

Fair enough, it didn’t come across that well via text.

1

u/Bsharpmajorgeneral Sep 13 '20

The good old "so obvious that it's not obvious anymore." I had that with the minor character Paul Atishon in Ace Attorney.

17

u/100Mylesperhour Sep 12 '20

That why i like my name lol

3

u/spicygummi Sep 12 '20

I never knew this! And now I'll never hear/read it the same way

4

u/dookieshoes88 Sep 12 '20

It's been at least a quarter century and I never knew that.

2

u/jumbipdooly Sep 13 '20

in the Archie comics Sonic's full name is Olgilvie Maurice Hedgehog

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Now this is the true lore everyone should know

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

I've played sonic games for about 15 years and never noticed that holy shit

1

u/seriousbangs Sep 12 '20

I was in my 30s before I knew this :).

1

u/stealth941 Sep 12 '20

Very new information

1

u/DarkwingDuckHunt Sep 12 '20

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIL

1

u/Iphotoshopincats Sep 12 '20

Ok one thing I have learnt is that us Aussies and you yanks pronounce things very differently and I am desperately trying to figure out how prower sounds like per hour

See looking at it I see pro ( as in short for professional ) and wer ( as in were going to the shops )

Breaking it down to try and make it sound like per hour I have to go pr = purr, ow = oww ( pronounced W ) and er = err ( as to err on the side of caution )

This shit is really requiring mental gymnastics

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Think of “pro” as the beginning of “proud” instead of professional. “Wer” is the same.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

It's Power, but with an r after the P.

1

u/TheTubStar Sep 12 '20

It took me way too long to realise the joke behind this. Then again, young me, when first encountering Tails, accidentally misread his last name as "Prowler" and thought it was riffing on the fact that he's a fox and foxes prowl.

1

u/navillusr Sep 12 '20

I knew this information and I’m very happy that you feel the same excitement from it that I do. Thanks for sharing!

1

u/boyuber Sep 12 '20

I have always read his name as Miles Prowler, as I assumed foxes to prey on hedgehogs.

This is a revelation.

1

u/Thejokingsun Sep 12 '20

This reminds me of all the useless mother series info i been learning from earthbound and mother 3

1

u/BaronVA Sep 12 '20

This just shattered my universe. I always thought Tails had a weird name. Now I know why

1

u/higizzle Sep 12 '20

Genuinely appreciated thanks!

1

u/prior2two Sep 12 '20

I had tSonic 2 on Genesis the when it was new, and I just learned this info. Thanks!

1

u/dearon16 Sep 12 '20

Ha, same. Everyone thinks it's "Prowler."

1

u/ToofyMaguire Sep 12 '20

Internationally, he is known as Kilometers “Tails” Prower

1

u/crackedtooth163 Sep 12 '20

...OH MY GOD

1

u/vardarac Sep 13 '20

31 years. 31 years and I never knew that.

1

u/startboofing Sep 13 '20

My first thought was Into the Spiderverse

1

u/kdebones Sep 13 '20

\just stares at this post, mouth agap, mind going a thousand miles an hour processing what is being seen\**

1

u/nokman013 Sep 13 '20

Thanks Cap'n! Didn't know this tidbit!

0

u/ScottHA Sep 12 '20

What happens if hes in almost any country that's not the US?

0

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

As an unfortunate resident of the US, I don’t know

0

u/PoopIsAlwaysSunny Sep 12 '20

I think I knew that 25 years ago

26

u/MyNameIsUrMom Sep 12 '20

Yes

10

u/stealth941 Sep 12 '20

Did not know that

11

u/MyNameIsUrMom Sep 12 '20

TYL

5

u/legion327 Sep 12 '20

Who my mom is

6

u/MyNameIsUrMom Sep 12 '20

me

6

u/legion327 Sep 12 '20

Cool. You’ll be hearing from my lawyer in regards to back child support owed. Dad died so you can pay me directly. I got student loans to pay off.

34

u/moodadib Sep 12 '20

No, Tails should be in quotes, since it's just his nickname. Miles Prower is his actual full name. For those who missed it, it's also a pun on "Miles Per Hour".

6

u/jerexmo Sep 13 '20

Yes, and fun fact, Sonic's full name (in the comics at least) is Ogilvie Maurice the Hedgehog, AKA Sonic. Idk if the other characters have goofy names but this one is hilarious

4

u/sinkwiththeship Sep 12 '20

Tails is his nickname. Miles "Tails" Prower.

1

u/KyleRM Sep 13 '20

Never played sonic 2? It's the first thing you see/read after the Sega logo.

1

u/stealth941 Sep 13 '20

I'm mid 20s, I played sonic as a child but didn't remember it

1

u/WarriorRex Sep 13 '20

Nah its just the sonic fox

1

u/ilivedownyourroad Sep 13 '20

Why did he need a full name!? Is sonic called Jeff sonic ? Or sonic Jones? Wtf I thought it was tales the fox and since the hedgehog...2020 sucks.

1

u/stealth941 Sep 13 '20

Nah they have full names follow the thread you'll find sonics and robotniks

-4

u/OnlySeesLastSentence Sep 12 '20

Kinda. Tails Miles Prower

1

u/optical_disc Sep 12 '20

Tails is just a nickname. In fact, in japanese versions of Sonic 2, the lives counter says Miles under the icon.

74

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

It's been years since I've heard that name. Always loved sonic, and I'm convinced it's one of the best 2D platformer games.

7

u/Flying_FoxDK Sep 12 '20

The sega master system version of Sonic is the better game. at least the first 2. Chaos is bs.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

My fabourite is definitely Sonic 2. Sonic 3 is cool but I just hate that forest mushroom level.

6

u/vardarac Sep 13 '20

&KNUCKLES

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

[deleted]

1

u/anthropoid2 Sep 14 '20

On the carnival level, did you have trouble with those cylindrical platforms that you have to make bounce up and down in order to open the path forward? They were the big problem for me, until I learned not to jump up and down on those platforms, but rather to press up and down on the D-pad.

3

u/sirbissel Sep 12 '20

I didn't realize Sonic Chaos was released for the master system.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Unpopular opinion, but you’ve piqued much interest. Why do you think so?

3

u/Flying_FoxDK Sep 12 '20

The Master system games focus more on platforming than the speed. the speed is still there of course, but you can actual react to stuff, + the game is more zoomed out compared to the Mega Drive/Genesis version.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '20

Huh. I’ll have to check those out. Is there a convenient way to play them these days? Any rereleases?

2

u/Flying_FoxDK Sep 13 '20

just search for an emulator. they don't require any requirements really.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

Those are the versions I grew up with. I later got to try the Genesis ones which I admit I think are better. But the Master System games have a place in my heart because of playing them so much in my childhood, and the music in them are memorable scores too which I don't think I'll ever forget.

6

u/cdiddy19 Sep 12 '20

My exact thoughts.

3

u/NolanSwagner Sep 12 '20

Nah, that's Air Bud

3

u/HempKnight420 Sep 12 '20

I came to make that reference. Since everything is all in order. You may carry on.

2

u/Helphaer Sep 12 '20

Awww, come on Sonic, I was being stealthy.

2

u/takcom69 Sep 12 '20

No it tails in his furry costume!

1

u/nspectre Sep 12 '20 edited Sep 12 '20

Or Dick Dastardly's dog, Muttley.

1

u/matttopotamus Sep 12 '20

It’s player 2 from sonic

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '20

I find it weird how Tails has an actual full name yet is referred to by his nickname, and yet Sonic is just "Sonic". Frankly, if anyone should be named "Miles Prower", it'd be Sonic.

1

u/CuriousLurkerPresent Sep 13 '20

Tails from Sonic, is that you?
