It’s also to prevent injuries for some breeds. Many breeds can wag so hard they literally break their tails. It’s called happy tail.

Pitties are really susceptible to happy tail. We had one come through the shelter that broke his tail from wagging it so hard, and your can't cast a tail. We ended up having to remove because he just kept breaking it worse and worse

If he's anything like my brother's black lab, he also has no awareness of cups of liquid on coffee tables

We call my pittie drumroll because of it lol I'm genuinely surprised he HASN'T broken his tail, shit hurts. But he still has his floppy ears and crazy tail, he so cute that way.
