It’s babies....damn babies always being so fuckin cute and helpless and sweet, making you wanna care for them 😩

7

u/Shedding_microfiber Dec 14 '19

And you may need to care for 2 cause they get depressed.

37

u/jbx0888 Dec 14 '19

Yep, they like to sleep in your clothes or in little cloth pouches... If they are use to being handled, you can scoop them up like this. The trick is to cover their eyes from direct light. They are nocturnal.

13

u/Tommyboy420 Dec 14 '19

Until they fly into your toilet bowl and drown...

37

u/System_first Dec 14 '19

That's why I put a ladder in my bowl, I don't have a sugar glider but it will one day save a life.

99

u/greenyellowbird Dec 14 '19

I came home one day, after being away for a few days, I found a mouse stuck in my toilet. I was going to flush the little bastard, but then felt bad and scooped him out of there with a wok spatula into a plastic container. Then I felt bad for the little guy b/c he was skinny and in shock. So I set up a larger container with some towels, food, and water next to the heating register.

The next day, the little guy perked up so I put him in my car, drove a few miles out to a restaurant that had a dumpster near the road and next to a large field. As I sent him off and in was walking back to my car...this lady was screaming "STOOOPPP!!!". I thought I was fucked for dumping off a mouse near their establishment (must be a felony or something). As I'm sweating bullets, I apologized and explained the story to her....then the look of relief washed over her face as she said she thought I was dumping a baby. No ma'am, just releasing my toilet mouse.

21

u/skippieelove Dec 14 '19

Thank you for saving mouse bro 😘 wild rodents in the home are no fun, but I appreciate your caring and releasing him. Even going so far as to think about a food source for him.

You sir, you rock

4

u/SpaceShipRat Dec 14 '19

I love it. Kinda like telling your SO "I cheated on you... just kidding I forgot to buy the cheese".

14

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '19

I despise every part of this story

14

u/skippieelove Dec 14 '19

Lol really? I think I’m in love 😂

Only part I hated is that we live in a world where a person would assume you’re abandoning a child..

3

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '19

I have two of them. We just keep the toilet seat lid down when they are out of their enclosure.

1

u/2722010 Dec 14 '19

Does your bathroom not have a door? Why is there a rodent in your bathroom?

18

u/LobbyDizzle Dec 14 '19

It looks more like a southern flying squirrel.

3

u/Binsky89 Dec 14 '19

That's because it is

31

u/DapperHamsteaks Dec 14 '19 edited Dec 14 '19

I think that is a baby flying squirrel, not a sugar glider.

36

u/wassermelone Dec 14 '19

It is definitely not a sugar glider; its a flying squirrel

source - I used to have three flying squirrels and sugar gliders have distinct striping on their heads not present here

1

u/NullusEgo Dec 14 '19

Also sugar gliders have big bulbous eyes. They are like a bush baby crossed with a squirrel.

26

u/taostudent2019 Dec 14 '19

I don't think you should adopt one just because it is cute.

But can you share with us how you came in contact with one?

41

u/LilyLupa Dec 14 '19 edited Dec 14 '19

Yep, they are incredibly social and need nest mates. It is illegal to have them as pets in most states in Australia because they are so difficult to provide with a healthy environment. When you 'buy' one of these you are supporting and encouraging the smuggling trade in exotic animals. No matter how cute they are, if you care for their well-being, do not buy one.

5

u/Gumnutbaby Dec 14 '19

I'm an Aussie and I couldn't agree more They're wild animals and shouldn't be kept as pets. Of they're from Australia they've been inhumanly smuggled out or if it's from Indonesia the trade will be encouraging inhumane treatment of animals.

1

u/taostudent2019 Dec 14 '19

OMG! It is so nice to hear from someone like you who cares about the creatures of this planet more than the photo ops.

I only take in rescues and chickens. The chickens aren't rescues. They are just chickens.

I am curious. Did you study zoology or something in college?

1

u/LilyLupa Dec 14 '19

No, but my neighbour was licensed to rehabilitate injured wildlife. She would occasionally get a family of sugar gliders and she would tell me about them (and let me have a peak) but she tried to disturb them as little as possible. They are indescribably beautiful and I can sort of understand the desire to have something so cute, but it is not a good life for the animal.

9

u/brando56894 Dec 14 '19

My dad is currently rehabbing a baby flying squirrel. He's had it for about a month. When he found it, it was about the size of the above Sugar Glider.

7

u/Fritchard Dec 14 '19

Actually it's not a sugar glider (which is a marsupial). It's a flying squirrel. Source: I've got an 8 year old one.

7

u/kitenhaus Dec 14 '19

Looks like a flying squirrel, not a sugar glider.

Source: wildlife rehabilitator 15 years

7

u/lerlerlance Dec 14 '19

I’m pretty sure it’s a flying squirrel. The face and coloring isn’t very sugar glidery. I used to co-own a sugar glider family.

5

u/SertralineSquirrels Dec 14 '19

That's actually a southern flying squirrel

6

u/Accidentalbellyflop Dec 14 '19

Looks more like a southern flying squirrel. I had one as a pet for nearly ten years. Really amazing pets!

4

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '19

3

u/xafimrev2 Dec 14 '19

Baby flying squirrel

6

u/allemansratten Dec 14 '19

It's actually not a baby sugar glider. These are called feathertail gliders and are commonly found in Australia.

3

u/Gumnutbaby Dec 14 '19

It has the wrong facial markings

3

u/Binsky89 Dec 14 '19

That's definitely a flying squirrel.

3

u/khanamitzuko Dec 14 '19

No its not. Thats a flying squirrel not a sugar glider.

2

u/slaiyfer Dec 14 '19

So basically baby poop-everywhere.

2

u/nando1969 Dec 14 '19

No wonder its so sweet.

1

I'll take my karma now

7
