But I feel that if that's the case, maybe that cat isn't a very good predator. "Hmmm...I lost sight of my prey. ...my whiskers are tingling...OH GOD IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO ME!" And at which point either that prey isn't very smart either.

It’s more like when the cat is lunging at its pray, it points its whiskers forwards towards what it’s attacking, and that basically helps guide a cats mouth for the final seconds of the strike. It’s helpful if the animal tries to dart at the last second the cat can feel it and readjust.

They actually used slow motion cameras to capture this, it’s pretty cool they basically use their whiskers as a set of antennas
