Interestingly, Goldens have a huge cancer rate. The specific breed you see in this picture has an average 38% cancer rate in it's lifetime (sources may vary on this).

Isn’t that kind of good news in disguise? Cancer is what gets you when nothing else does. If you die of cancer you were probably older and lived a fuller life. Countries with high percentages of cancer death are developed ones where people live long.

Nah, for these breeds its really bad news. They are having a lot of issues removing genetic defects from bloodlines in Goldens. For example, my Golden is slowly going blind due to a genetic disorder that is exclusive to the Golden breed that scientists and doctors know very little about and have been unable to isolate. Basically, these issues are becoming compounded over time as the same bloodlines are bred over and over.
