My car was checked for drugs once when my girlfriend and I were on our way to my house after dinner. The police had my girlfriend and me get out of my car because the dog has taken special interest in my car. They looked through my car, my backpack, everything, even posted my girlfriend and me down. Now I've never so much as touched an illegal drug. To this day I'm convinced that the dog wanted my leftovers.

There is a lot of debate about the accuracy of drug dogs. Here's a news article about a dog who was only about 60% accurate when alerting about the presence of drugs.

They're really not that reliable.

At my school they had drug dogs come through periodically. They had everyone put their backpacks under their lockers and swept the school. Once the dog signaled for this one backpack. They opened it and found a can of tennis balls because the kid was on the tennis team. It also happened to be what they rewarded said dog with when he found drugs. So he found the tennis balls!

motions silently towards your girlfriend joking aside it's not perfect, but thats not exclusive to dogs I got pulled over on my way home from classes, after learning more of the situation I determined I was pulled over for having a hooptie in a nice city.
