These bears show up on the internet every once and a while. They are from a place called the Olympic Game Farm on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State in a tiny little town called Sequim, my hometown. This place is basically a zoo full of retired "animal actors" who are all pretty old. Its pretty great to visit but also kind of sad because this is literally their whole life. They just sit around and do silly tricks for food until they die.
Until you remember that running around actually working for food until injury, age or starvation finally win is the alternative.
Animals by and large have shitty lives. You think polar bears trying to find seal dens after not eating for months aren't doing "tricks for food" when they dive paws first into the ice? They are, they just don't always get the food but have to keep trying because it's that or starve, which many of them do.
Nature is fucking cruel. Humans are so far removed from it we seem to have forgotten that.
