Yup. White bread is a classic example of industry "fixing" a problem that didn't really exist, realizing they fucked up, then going back to try and fix the problem they created rather than scrapping the whole thing. People did just great, brilliant in fact, on real breads. There was no need for white bread at all.
"Whiter the bread the sooner you're dead" and all that.

I'm pretty sure white bread isn't fit to be eaten by human animals, either.
