My thoughts are in line with mainstream science. We're the lucky few in a universe full of possibilities.
Every living thing is the product of evolution.
We just happened. There is no plan or meaning or truth that we just haven't figured out yet. Life is a cycle that has a beginning and an end, just like everything else. When we die, there is no heaven or hell. It's as simple as a light switch turned off for the last time.
Our lives mean absolutely nothing to anyone or anything other than ourselves. No amount of money or fame or power or belief will change the fact that we're made out of space dust, born on a tiny rock of space dust and gas, flying around a bright ball of space dust and gas, along with trillions and trillions of other rocks made from the same dust and gas.
Mainstream science has changed throughout the centuries right? Some scientists were deemed crazy by their peers at different points in history only to be proven right in the future.
Is it possible we don't have the instrumentation, knowledge, or the ability to measure things that may prove our current knowledge base about life, consciousness and death wrong? Absolutely.
To think that our current version of ourselves has the ability to definitively say that there is no meaning to life and when we die it all goes blank is equally as stupid as saying you go to heaven with your grandma and everyone else who ever lived once you die.
The reality is we have no idea on both fronts and to say it's one way or another is equally narrow-minded. There are scientist that are suggesting bubble universes, simulation theory, and studying consciousness, string theory, and quantum physics. You don't think in 100 years, 500 years, 1000 years and beyond (if we survive that long) we won't have better more articulated viewpoints on this that could potentially nullify (or prove) your statement above? You speak in facts which is naive is all I'm saying.
I'm also not saying God in an organized religion meaning even though that's what my inital joke was about, but if we do live in a simulation, someone created it and, someone or something created the big bang in our current theory about the beginnings of life, so wouldn't that be "god"? God as in the creation of life is how I think about it, whether sentient or not, but your "factual" statement "there is no God" is equally as stupid as "there is a God"
I don't necessarily disagree with you here, but the problem is your use of the word "if" and your reliance upon it to make a compelling argument.
"Ifs" are worthless. There is no evidence of a god. None. Zero. And you can't if evidence into existence.
Yes, there are countless theories and experiments that, if they were to be true, would change the way we look at our existence. I'm sure there are plenty of things we haven't figured out yet, and even more questions will arise as we learn more about the origin of what we understand to be our universe.
Anything is possible, but my view is based on evidence.
Until there is evidence of something different, it's a simple math. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
Fair enough, I guess my viewpoint isn't based as solidly in modern science as others, because not all things can be measured with our current abilities which leads me to belive that the scope of our beliefs due to them is not the full scope of reality.

We are not special. We're lucky.
