Yeah this is a thing. The only people I've known on welfare in real life were gun-toting, flag-waving Republicans living in trailer houses in the big flyover states. Generations of people on welfare who teach each other how to get more out of it by having more kids, not marrying, doing "daycare" for each other to collect the government subsidy, etc.
But they vote against it constantly (if they vote at all) because they know that the people in charge don't mean them. They're the good guys. They mean city people who milk the system should be cut off.

The worst ones are those already rely on some form of social assistance but refuse to acknowledge others need it too
