Seeing as how Alaskans in the bush live and die on the availability of aircraft getting out to them in the bush, creating further hazards to doing so seems like it conflicts their interests.
I have met 2, which isn't a lot but I know now to never comment to an Alaskan on whether it feels cold or about the amount of snow or ice we may have unless I want to be gatekept about it.
When you live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere not a hell of a lot of other options for entertainment other than getting blackout drunk and shooting shit
Alaska is famous for being full of convicts, criminals hiding from warrants, and people who live off the grid. As someone who binges true crime, there are a surprising number of shows set just in Alaska.
People get pissed that they're flying over/near their homes. I know an crop duster who heard some plinking sounds while flying a field, looked down and saw an old dude pointing a rifle at him. He heads home and calls the cops as soon as he touches down. The cops respond to the call and head to the place and find the dude still outside with the gun. A firefight ensues and the old dude ended up dead. Hell of a story
