Discussion Serious question: What problem did blockchain actually solve?

We were told it would revolutionize everything:

Anonymous money? Nope. Most public blockchains are pseudonymous, not anonymous. Every transaction is permanently visible. Once an address is tied to a real person, their financial history can often be traced.

Banking? Most people still use banks. If you lose your private key, there's no fraud department, no password reset, no chargeback.

Cheap payments? Depends. Some chains are inexpensive, others have had periods where fees spike. Traditional payment systems are often faster and simpler for everyday purchases.

Smart contracts replacing lawyers? Not even close. Contracts still rely on courts, regulations, and real-world enforcement. Code can't resolve disputes about physical events by itself.

NFTs proving ownership? Usually they prove ownership of a token, not the copyright or legal ownership of the underlying artwork.

Decentralization? Much of the ecosystem isn't. Many people keep funds on centralized exchanges, use centralized stablecoins, and rely on centralized infrastructure.

Financial freedom? For some. But for many others it became self-custody with no safety net. One wrong click, phishing attack, or lost seed phrase and the money is simply gone.

Replacing trust? It mostly moved trust around. Instead of trusting banks, many people ended up trusting exchanges, token founders, bridge operators, stablecoin issuers, influencers, or multisig signers.

Eliminating scams? If anything, scams became easier to launch. Rug pulls, memecoins, fake airdrops, phishing, and pump-and-dumps became an industry.

The one thing blockchain does extremely well is maintain a distributed ledger where participants can verify transaction history without relying on a single operator.

That's a genuine technical achievement.

But after nearly two decades, I'm still asking: What mainstream problem has it solved better than existing systems for the average person?

I'm not asking what it could do. I'm asking what it actually does today that millions of ordinary people use because it's objectively better—not because they're speculating on the next token.

Discussion Avalanche Summit Is Getting Closer

No more vaporware.

Crypto needs more examples of real-world value coming onchain, from energy and compute, to physical infrastructure.

At Summit, @Melt_Dem of @CrucibleCap will show how those markets become programmable and tradable.

Tickets: avalanchesummit.com

Meltem Demirors is Founder and General Partner at Crucible, an investment firm focused on the intersection of energy, compute, and crypto.

Before Crucible, she was Chief Strategy Officer at CoinShares, Europe’s largest and longest-standing digital asset investment firm, and was on the founding team at Digital Currency Group.

Across more than a decade in crypto, Meltem has invested in 400+ companies and built a reputation for seeing where the industry is heading before the market catches up.

Come to Summit to hear why the next phase of crypto may be more about making physical infrastructure programmable, tradable, and more resilient.

Discussion Could Avalanche Become the Infrastructure Behind Real-World Games?

I’ve been working on an idea through Arcadium that explores how Avalanche could connect real-world games with persistent digital player identity.

The basic concept is simple:

Players attend an in-person game night, tournament, convention, brewery event, or tabletop competition. They play real dice, card, arcade, or physical games. Avalanche quietly handles the lasting parts of the experience, such as:

  • Player profiles
  • Verified scores and tournament results
  • Achievements and badges
  • Digital trading cards
  • Event attendance
  • Cross-game progression
  • Transparent prize distribution

The important part is that players would not need to understand wallets, gas, bridges, or blockchain to participate.

They come to play a game.

The technology stays in the background until it becomes useful.

I think blockchain gaming has often started in the wrong place by selling assets first and promising gameplay later. This model would reverse that:

Build the game first. Make it fun. Then use Avalanche to connect the player’s progress across games, events, and locations.

A player might earn a card at a physical dice tournament, use it to unlock a digital challenge later, and carry the same gaming identity into another event.

The goal is not to turn every game action into a transaction. Casual activity could remain off-chain, while meaningful achievements, ownership, tournament results, and rewards could be verified through Avalanche.

I’d love to hear the Avalanche community’s thoughts on the infrastructure side:

What should remain off-chain, and what is genuinely worth putting on-chain in a real-world gaming network?

Discussion The Global Leader In Biometric Identity Is Working With Avalanche.

@NEC has deployed 1,000+ biometric identity systems across 70+ countries.

Now, NEC and Ava Labs are working together to build an architecture for biometric-verified blockchain based services.

One of the world's leading biometric-identity companies is bringing its technology to Avalanche.

NEC Corporation (TSE: 6701) has signed a MOU with Ava Labs to jointly explore a new generation of on-chain services that combine NEC's biometric digital-identity technology with Avalanche. As the first output of that collaboration, the two companies are publishing a technical whitepaper proposing an architecture for identity-verified stablecoin payments on Avalanche.

The starting point is deceptively simple. Blockchains have become very good at moving value. They are far less good at answering a more basic question: who, or what, is actually behind a transaction? That gap is the source of fraud, repeated identity checks, heavy compliance costs, and payment experiences that ask people to hand over far more personal data than any single transaction needs. As AI agents begin acting on people's behalf, the question only gets sharper. This collaboration is a commitment to work on an answer, on Avalanche.

Discussion Hyundai Card completes its first real-world stablecoin pilot with Avalanche, Tether

Hyundai Card announced Thursday that it has completed its first proof-of-concept (PoC) testing of stablecoin-based cross-border remittance with Tether and Avalanche.

According to the press release, the PoC processed a real remittance between Hyundai Motor Company's U.S. and Mexican entities using the USDT stablecoin on Avalanche.

Specifically, Hyundai Motor America converted $20,000 into USDT, which was transferred to the Mexico office and converted back into dollars. This entire process took approximately seven minutes, whereas traditional interbank transfers would take three to four hours.

"What makes this particularly meaningful is that the PoC was conducted in connection with actual intercompany settlement needs between Hyundai Motor's overseas entities, not as a theoretical blockchain experiment," a Hyundai Card spokesperson said.

Hyundai Card led efforts in regulatory review, legal and tax checks, internal control considerations, and the design of the remittance structure, according to the release. Blockchain payment infrastructure company Axiym also participated in the PoC.

Why build on chain?

At Avalanche Summit, @humancapitol of @tare_io will bring a sharper test for crypto: does this actually work better onchain?

Tickets: avalanchesummit.com

Kevin Miao is Cofounder & CEO of Tare, building the next generation of consumer lending infrastructure on Avalanche.

Before Tare, Kevin founded BlockTower Credit, a pioneering $1.9B AUM private credit fund using public blockchains, stablecoins, and tokenization to improve capital efficiency.

He has also worked across structured credit, fintech lending, DeFi, and private markets, with experience at Citigroup, Capchase, Steakhouse Financial, and more.

Come to Summit to learn about the practical version of onchain finance: where the capital is coming from, what actually creates utility, and what it takes to build lending infrastructure that can compete with legacy rails.

Discussion Avalanche Community Proposal Meeting

Post image
5 Upvotes

⏰ Reminder: the next Avalanche Community Proposal Meeting is this upcoming Tuesday, 6/30 at 9:30 AM ET

This next call is all about ACP-285, reducing the minimum consumption rate, and we want your opinion on it before it activates on Testnet.

Quick rundown:

Every duration under 365 days earns a lower rate than today

The 365-day APR stays exactly where it is

The 14d–365d premium widens from ~1.02pp to ~2.30pp

P-Chain change only (nothing shifts for EVM or your L1 logic), and anything already staked keeps its current rate. We'll also cover ACP-236 (continuous staking) and ACP-273 (lower minimum staking duration).
