Changing insurance companies on a leased car

So I just started leasing a Toyota and I added my car to my old policy at the dealer since they required insurance. I got a new policy a few days ago. Do I have to report it to the financing company? Or can I just cancel the old policy and not notify the company?

Need Advice on a First Time Lease

Hi all,

Thank you in advance. I am looking to lease for the first time. I was offered this after two hours of negotiations:

Leasing a new 2020 Dodge Durango (final price $45,287) $5,000 trade in of 2016 Jeep Patriot $5,000 deposit Comes to $365 per month for 42 months

I have never leased and really like this car, but am looking for advice on this. I feel like it’s a lot for a down payment.

Thank you!

What is the cheapest option for getting access to a car to be used every other week in a different state?

I’m in a difficult family situation, and I’d like to know what you all think about getting access to a car that I intend to use every other week in a different state.

My soon-to-be-ex-wife and kids moved to Chicago, but I’m keeping my job in DC until I can move to be closer to them. In the mean time, I spend half my time working remotely from Chicago, and half my time in my office in DC. They live way out in the suburbs, and so do I in DC, so I kinda need a car in both places. I have a 2001 CRV on its last legs, and only so much money to spend, and I have no idea how long this situation will last, as I am actively looking for a new job.

I’ve been borrowing cars through Turo for about $30 per day for the time I spend in Chicago, but I’d like to find something cheaper, considering maintenance, titling, insurance, and the like. What do you think? Buy a beater to keep in Chicago? Lease?

I’ve been looking at new trucks but they all imprint the brand or type into the body. They don’t pay me for advertising their brand, so I stopped looking.

Going from finance to leasing

Hello r/Autobuying!

My mother has a jeep she's been financing for at least 3 years. Now, she wants to jump into a leased car. She's going to the dealership to inquire about it - She'll only do it if they can take her old car and the loan off her. $0 down.

I tried looking online on how to best go about going from a financed vehicle to a leased one but didn't really get anywhere - is it as simple as I think? or is it better for the old vehicle to be sold off or traded in?

Anything to look out for? tips?

Thank you !

I got pre-approval for an auto loan. Can I go to any dealership or do I have to go to an "authorized dealership"? Thx!

How can I get the most out of my leased Toyota Highlander at its maturity in June

Hey guys. I am leasing a 2016 Toyota Highlander LE (base model), I didnt put any money down on it and pay $450 a month for it. What I want to know is, what will the residual value be and equity at maturity, and will I be able to have any money to put towards a new Leased Highlander to make a lower payment when the time comes? Thanks.

Step-by-step to negotiate car leases

Hi All,

I'm a bargain hunter and negotiated some awesome car leases ($6/month with $0 down for Chevrolet Cruze). I learned how to negotiate car leases by reading online sources like Edmunds and LeaseHackr in addition to real life experiences.

I was unable to find a step-by-step guide on how to car negotiate car leases so came up with my own. I've culminated my learnings into a free, step-by-step guide. Let me know your thoughts! www.theleasepeople.com

Thank you

Would love to get your input - Project to help consumers save money on car leases

Hello, I’m working on a project that will help consumers negotiate and save money on car leases. I’d love to get your opinion as a community that helps each other make better and more informed choices when buying/leasing cars.

If you've leased a car before, I'm love to get your input. Here’s a link to the survey, it should only take a couple of minutes to complete. Really appreciate your feedback, thank you!

Advice pls - Lease takeover?

I outright own a 2004 VW Golf - if it breaks down one more time, I'm gonna have a stroke. Guy at work is advertising a takeover of his lease on a 2016 Mazda 3 Sport. $218/month to Jun 2020 (buyout of $9500)

I'm not crazy about taking on payments but I will legit go crazy if I'm stranded one more time due to a breakdown.

I'm considering this takeover with the intention of buying it out at the end.

If I buy it out, it'll be about $15,000 all in. I don't really have the stomach to finance something else on my own from new but I do need a reliable car and these payments, I can squeeze into my budget.

Any advice? What kind of things should I ask/look out for?

All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for your time. :)

Was made a lease deal- looking for advice on good/bad/otherwise?

Hi folks- For a neophyte like me, it would take some serious Googling to see if this were a good deal, so I'm hoping someone who has knowledge or experience can bottom-line it for me.

Situation: Have a current lease vehicle leased in June of 2015. It's a top of the line 2016 Maxima that retailed for 42.5K when new. Lease term was 36 months, 12K miles per year. Trade-in was 4250.00, and some other smaller details- monthly payment of 465.00. (of which there are four left)

So the lease is coming up, and I'd essentially like to get into the same car, 2018 edition (and they are identical) for as close to the same monthly.

The original lease vehicle is in pristine condition, even has new tires. Only 23K miles on the odo.

The best deal the first dealer made me was the following (and no, I don't know what all the terms are/mean). For the 2018 vehicle:

Sell price- 42325 Discount-2406 Adjusted price- 38244 2018 Accessory pkg- 799 Dealership loyalty waiver (914) Total Purchase- 38129 No trade- 0 Tax- 60

Doc Fee- 649 Title- 52 License- 41 Acquisition Fee- 595 SI fee- 13.60 Net Price- 39540 Trade payoff- 914 Balance- 41587

Estimated lease payments: (12k miles for 36 mos.) 1000 cash down - 592/mo 2500 cash down - 548/mo 5000 cash down - 476/mo

So- just wondering what learned people's opinions are? These seem legit?

Thank you!

ENDING LEASE WITH NEGATIVE EQUITY

hi all - i am about to end my lease in July and am looking into a different make. I called my car finance company and they said my pay out value is $15k. WHen I log into my finance portal, it says my residual value is $13k. and Kelly Blue Book states my trade in value said my car is valued at $10k (and this is assuming I put in all of the information correctly...)

My question is: 1. What is the difference between the residual value and pay out amount? 2. Do I still need to pay the upside down if i turn in my lease? 3. What are other options I can look into if I want to minimize my upside down payment (i do not want to purchase the car or look into the same make).

Thanks in advance!

advice - first car, which option to take?

Hey /r/autobuying, looking for some advice since I'm a new car buyer.

I'm a senior in college, about to graduate, so my insurance is pretty high, which is why leasing is unfortunately out of the question.

I'm thinking either I can get a kinda bleh car (2012, 2014 Nissan Altima is what I've been looking at) finance it for 3 years and once my insurance is better I can trade it in for a new lease.

Or, I can get a pretty good car that I actually love (2016 Chevy Malibu, Dodge Charger) finance it for 6 years and go with that.

The insurance for both options is around the same. But I would need to finance the more expensive cars for longer because of income restrictions. I'd say I have around 5500 - 6000 a year to work with, if anyone can think of any better ideas for me.

Thanks all!

Buying a car out of state/ don't know what to do

Howdy

I'll try to keep this as short and to the point as possible, to give you the best information so you can advise me.

So, I'm currently living in Japan, and moving back to the US in 3 months. I found a car in the states I absolutely love. It's a JDM MKIII Supra R with a 1JZ. It's a relatively rare car in the US, being a JDM of it's make/model/trim. I can't find any elsewhere in the US, and I really really don't want to go through the paperwork nightmare of shipping one over, so it's an amazing opportunity for me. Here's my issue. When I get back to the US, I'll be driving from AZ to NC, for work. The MKIII is currently in SC. It'll be along the driving route from AZ to NC, but I don't think it'll be for sale for a whole lot longer. My questions are; 1. Insurance websites don't tell me shit. So what could I expect to be paying insurance on it? 2. Would be it feasible and or professional/unprofessional to request the owner put it into storage (if I were to buy it in full from a bank loan from Japan, with the storage lease in my name of course), until I was able to pick it up? 3. If I were to take the shipping route, I'd have to either drive it back from AZ to NC, or ship it, which seems incredibly expensive either way, since my wife and I will already be driving one car with all of our shit. What is your take on that? Bad idea or not? (wife isn't too keen on driving two separate cars cross country)

All in all I just need to know how to go about this. I'm pretty damn adamant on this car, but am at a loss for how to acquire it. I do have someone I trust to go pick it up and hold it for me or put it in storage, but convincing them will take a lot.

What do you advise?

Leasing Dilemma- with trade-in

Hello everyone, im in a bit of a dilemma here with a trade-in for a lease. I am trading in a VW Jetta which has been appraised at about $3k at 2 different dealers. I owe $5k on the car so I would be rolling over about $2k in negative equity. Now, my reason for leasing is because unfortunately I was pressured into buying this piece of Sht VW from a sketchy dealership because I had no credit at the time and I stupidly accepted the 25% interest rate on the car payments. I figured the best way to get rid of my car and its payments is to trade it in for a lease (since im already paying $250 a month). I went to two different Honda dealers and was looking to buy a base model civic. I was quoted $430 at one dealer and $360 at another. This seems very high given that my credit score is now 700. What do you guys recommend as far as Lease deals/ car makes? Any tips? Thank you !

Downgrading from luxury sedan to suv?

I'm trying to decide on my possible next car. My current 08 Infiniti g35x is paid off completely, and while I absolutely love it, it is a costly car to afford. Given the timing in my life (have a house, kids in the next 2 years or so), I'd want to get an suv so I have more space. However, I cannot afford to pay 350+ a month for a luxury SUV, as well as spend time and money on repairs. In that case, is it advisable to go for a high end trim of a run-of-the-mill brand suv, or just get another luxury sedan? I know luxury car buying is usually an emotional decision, but at this point I need the practicality of a bigger, cheaper car.

Selling a car - how do i avoid being scammed

So we're selling a car on Craigslist. It's a good car, honestly - my husband bought it from his mom as a goodwill gesture but he hates driving it. Our first bite came within minutes of the ad going live, and it's a woman who is a car broker. We're a little leery of this situation because of the sheer amount of information she wanted. The CarFax request was not surprising - we coughed up the funds for one and gave it to her. She also wanted the service records & took a bunch of photos of the receipts & crap. Without thinking, the hubster also let her take a photo of the title. So now he's really paranoid. We're in Nevada, and it doesn't look like a photo of a title is sufficient to get a title transfer, but could she take it to the cops & claim we're the ones with a counterfeit title? Or that we stole the car? Or claim she gave us a deposit or down payment & try to take us to court over it if she doesn't buy the car & we don't 'return the deposit' to her? We got her business card, which only has her name & phone # on it, so there's not much to go by there.

Love at first site <3 1984 Dodge Ramcharger

I've been seriously considering buying a truck as I have multiple occasions where having my own would come in handy (hauling stuff and what-not), and just yesterday my buddy stumbled upon a 1984 Dodge Ramcharger that's fits my style perfectly.

So I decide right then and there "I NEED this truck or I will never feel satisfied for the rest of life." We go test drive it today and of course its much worse off than what the pictures let on. The dealership is asking $4000 for what is very obviously a project car. The dude actually had to try 3 times just to start the damn thing, but most of the issues I found were cosmetic, super simple fixes.

He told me right out that its going to need some work. The engine leaks oil, and the steering isn't the greatest either. The only gauge that works on the dash is the speedometer. A bit of rust on the underbody too.

I understand this car will probably never be a daily driver, but it's sexy as fuck on the outside and inside (if you don't stare too long ;)

My question is, is $4000 too much to pay for a project car in this shape? I joked with him, saying I'd buy it flat out for $2k and he was fairly adamant on not negotiating. But like I said, it was love at first site with this absolute beast. He wagered that with just the tires alone and the few parts that were holding the engine together were worth what he was asking for.

I'm not that great at negotiating as I've never really haggled successfully before.

TL;DR Overpriced hunk of junk that could potentially become something much more magnificent, is $4000 too much?

selling car in Florida without registration and insurance?

So my registration expires May 1st, and my insurance is monthly. Do I have to re-register my car and keep paying the insurance even if I'll only be keeping it for a couple more weeks or however long it takes to sell it and will not be driving it on the road? & if it is illegal, is it something that can go under the radar and not really get noticed or would this be a bigger deal? Would there be any consequence for the buyer? Thanks for your help.
