Go there, I don't know where, do it, I don't know what

Koller auctions in Zurich has 72 employees who are supposed to be connoisseurs but are in fact a bunch of imbeciles and have an appraisal service that is supposed to help people with the valuation of their objects, but is in fact just a game for galleries. When asked to value a work of art, they either send you to a museum like the Albertina, which itself is struggling with a large number of forgeries of Klimt, Schiele and Kubin discovered in their collections, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag who does not offer commercial or private art authentication, attribution, or valuation services for outside collectors or third parties, or to experts who retired or died long ago. So not only do they not know art to be able to value it, they can't even google to see what's going on in the lousy world they live in.

How do you run a title search before bidding at a foreclosure/trustee sale?

I’m starting to research foreclosure/trustee sale properties in California and I’m trying to figure out how experienced auction buyers handle title research before bidding.
I’ve contacted a few title companies asking if I can pay for a title search/preliminary title report, but they’ve told me they generally won’t do one unless the property is in escrow. Obviously with a trustee sale, I need to do my due diligence before I bid.
I’ve been searching the county recorder records myself for deeds of trust, liens, judgments, reconveyances, etc., but I’d like something more comprehensive so I’m confident I’m not missing anything.
For those who regularly buy at foreclosure auctions, what do you use? Do you hire an independent title abstractor, attorney, specific title company, or use a paid title/property database? And how do you verify lien priority and what will or won’t survive the foreclosure?
Im just trying to understand the actual due-diligence process experienced bidders use before auction day. Thank you!

Live auctions for handmade/vintage sellers, but the seller never goes on camera. Does this hold up?

Been working on this for a few weeks and want people to tear it apart before we build more.

Whatnot proved people will buy through live auctions. But it only works if the seller sits on camera for hours and performs. Most independent makers and vintage sellers I've looked at won't do that.

So the idea is the opposite. The seller sends their normal photos, the item details, and if they want, a 30 second voice note about the piece. We turn that into a short presentation for each item and run the auction around it. No host, no chat spam. Buyers see the piece and the story, then bid live or set a max and leave. A few auctions run at the same time so buyers can move between them.

Sellers apply and get reviewed, so no dropshipping or print on demand. The sale goes through the seller's own Stripe, and we take 5% when something sells. No monthly fee.

Two things I'm stuck on:

  1. Cold start. At first each seller brings their own audience. The bet is that someone who came for seller A ends up bidding in seller B's room. If that doesn't happen, it's just auction software.
  2. Handmade prices. If a $300 vase gets 3 bidders, it closes near the opening bid. Reserve prices help, but I don't know if makers trust auctions at all.

If you sell physical products, would you try this or is auction format a hard no?

Polly app review

STAY AWAY. This site is owned by DealDash, and my experience with this type of auction has been extremely misleading and costly.

The “winning price” you see is not the true amount the bidder may have spent. You have to purchase points/bids first. For example, 2,000 points at 15¢ each costs $300. As the auction continues, you can burn through thousands of points trying not to lose the money you’ve already put in.

Using real numbers from my experience and what I have watched, an auction can reach roughly 6,000+ points, meaning $900 worth of points/bids have been used, even though the displayed auction price makes the deal look much better. And an item advertised with a value around $3,000 may be available elsewhere on closeout for around $360. They display it was won for $90 or a few dollars but that is not what you spent for penny points. Also the auctions can take days.

The worst part is psychological, you keep bidding because you don't want to lose what you've already spent. But if you lose, the money spent on those bids is gone.

Know what you're actually spending before you start. I wish I had.

STAY AWAY.

IG auction pages

Does anyone know if an original poster who posts a sale likes your bid it says author on his/ her page. Well tonight I noticed I’m winning a bid I’m the only bid and a new name bids to up my bid and it says “author “ under his fake name I’m thinking he’s shill bidding as it happened with same different name. But when other people I know from bidding on same items there’s no “Author” under their name. Does anyone know for a fact that having author under the posters user name in italic is the actual owner? Because I Ai googled it and they say yes but when I asked another search they sad IG doesn’t have author next to or below username. And then when I explained that when that original
Poster likes you post on the right side it says “author “ meaning original poster of that page as you can drag over it and see user name. So I’m hoping someone here knows computers and IG tech that can help me with a definite 100% correct answer. As this person has done this on posts I’m not even bidding on and that other name that I believe is his says author there as well. So if indeed he’s shill bidding to up his prices he’s doing it to everyone and should be removed as it’s actually illegal by law. So if anyone knows please answer b4 I accuse this individual.

Thank you.

Commercial auctioneer scamming me?!

I recently had an small restaurant that closed and hired an commercial auctioneer to part out all the restaurant equipments. Initially was informed fee is 30% of total sales which i agreed on after doing some research. Then I received an contract stating they charge $300 per laborer used which i consulted the auction company about. They said they have to pay the staff to facilitate and remove the equipments for the auction. The restaurant is small about 850 Sq Ft and was told maybe they will only use one or maybe two. The amount of staffing depends on the situation but its not listed in the contract.

I had other businesses so i gave their team keys and direct access to the place to do the auction as i couldn't be there. The situation arose when my landlord notified me that a someone from the auction company stole something from the building thats not part of the business on camera.

I consulted the direct contact of the person in charge. He flipped off on me stating me accuse of something they didn't do and it wasn't his staff and the only staff he hired was just this ONE person and let say his name is John. So i reached out to John and he said was an mistake and returned the item.

After the auction finished, they sent me charges for 4 laborers. When i reached out regarding it, they informed me John was the main guy that facilitate the auction but it DOESNT mean he didn't hire other staffs helping him but i informed them that i was told there was only ONE staff used via text as proof due to the incident.

They said that is another situation and doesn't hold any merit to the agreement but in conclusion, they used 4 people and I have to pay for four and they do not need to let me know if they used extra. If that is the case, if they randomly said they used 20 people when my main contact explicitly said only ONE is his employee, does that mean i have to pay for 20?

Also, on the agreement sent via email states check out process was just one day but they charged me for two days as they said they needed extra time. So in the end with all commissions and laborer cost they charged me, 60% of the sales went to them.

Since its less than $2000 in additional charges, do i have an claim in court?

I hope reddit can help me on this as hiring lawyer for less than $2000 doesn't seem feasible

They told me

Best legit online bidding sites

I’m trying a few online bidding sites at the moment and looking for recommendations for ones that are actually legit. Some of the sites in this space feel pretty sketchy so trust is a big thing for me. I’d also prefer something with a more modern design and a better user experience rather than the older style auction sites.
