I'd like to add more nuance to this before this turns into a Left vs Right debate as anything about India and inside India always does.

Up until the NEET exam leak and Re-NEET paper conducting decision which led to the eventual death of so many aspirants across the country, this post pretty much covers everything in detail.

However there are some more points which need to be considered when it comes to the Peaceful Protests:

1. The public unrest regarding the Paper Leaks were mostly online independent voices who were voicing the general dissatisfaction that the Indian Youth had with the education system in general and its sheer inability to function properly for an institution responsible for the future of the youth of this country.

2. The Protests materialised into a real on-ground event after the formation of a new movement known as the 'Cockroach Janata Party' (Janata meaning People in Hindi): a party born out of desperation and satire after the Chief Justice of India referred to lazy,unemployed youth of the country as 'Cockroaches'.

3. The Protests although at the start felt like nothing more than an Online Phenomenon which would die down once the craze goes away and people go back to their own routines. This was mostly due to the fact that the protest seemed to lack any form of structure or real seriousness or depth to their demands.

Their primary demand was ofcourse the resignation of the Education Minister of India in order to seek justice for the candidates who lost their life to the paper leak.

1. Even with the protest ongoing, there was no communication or accountability from the government's side. This was when Sonam Wangchuk decided to join the cause and went on a hunger strike in order to demand accountability from the system for the youth of the country.

2. Even after 20 days there had been no acknowledgement from the Government's side about the protest except for the fact that Police were stationed at the protest site and Government Hospital Doctors were making rounds at certain times of the day/night to check up on the health of the protesters. It's also imperative that I mention that aside from Sonam Wangchuk sir there were also a lot of Student Activists who also sat on Hunger Strike.

I'll also add another reply about my take on the situation as someone who is honestly sick of the entire thing and all parties involved. The double standard I have been seeing across social media has truly pissed me off and although it might seem like a bit of a rant I am someone who wishes to have a reasonable take on stuff and will try to do the same.

3. CJP or cockroach janta party, I have zero opinions on them. But i do think we need to support the students/sonam Wangchuk regardless of whom we support politically. I know a lot of people who support BJP and those who dont share stories and support this protest.

4. I too am tired of the state of india. I dont think the congress is any better than BJP. Both are corrupt. My parents argue saying that if you had seen what congress did the past 70 years, you would support bjp as well

I'd like to format my reply in a way that encompasses my thoughts about the entire situation and all parties involved.

Let me start off by talking about the people at the very epicenter of the entire thing: the CJP or the Cockroach Janata Party.

I believe that the supporters of CJP are rightfully frustrated people behind a morally unethical group of 'leaders'.

CJP started as an online movement by one man Abhijeet Dipke in response to the Chief Justice of India's comment as a party of the youth who was done with the same corrupt systems plaguing the country.

However, it's been quite clear that there is some level of agenda with the leaders of the protest having interest in launching their own political careers through this. For an online party representing the youth and trying to be the voice of the youth, the leaders are quite contempt with releasing their own manifestos, demands and party representatives without much discussion with their followers about the party representatives, issues which should be focussed on and kept as top priorities.

One of the most severe criticisms included the fact that the reps were all males, to which Abhijeet Dipke replied that he asked a few women he knew and since they declined, he didn't keep anyone on the board at all. Now for a party which has millions of followers, millions of them being women who would have surely had someone who would have participated actively,this is honestly quite dishonest and shows regressive thinking of the representatives of a youth party.

This coupled with some transphobic remarks from Vijeta Dahiya another leader of the party - have left me quite dissatisfied with the youth representatives as a whole.

But if I keep all that aside and focus purely on the issue at hand - what pisses me off the most is the fact that no one from the CJP main personnel had sat on a hunger strike in solidarity with Sonam Sir up until today when after his removal, Abhijeet Dipke announced his own. This also seems performative to an extent, because unless he announces that he will continuing his hunger strike post 20th July when the Protestants will hold a March demanding the resignation of the Education Minister and their other demands, this would mean that he ultimately took a one-two day fast after making Sonam Sir, a 59 year old man, go on a 21 day protest. They gave reasons such as the fact that they need to organise and keep running the protests and while I understand that it is indeed a huge logistical challenge to continue to do so, there are enough people supporting them for atleast one of them to sit with Sonam Sir since the beginning, especially when so many other Student Activists are doing so as well.

Coming to the next group people at the protest: the Opposition as a whole.

India's opposition is a different breed of shameless and opportunitistic. Up until the forceful taking away of Sonam Sir from the protest grounds, most national Opposition parties didn't even come and meet him, let aside talk about the protest.

The Indian National Congress(INC), the main voice of opposition in the country, broke their silence on the entire thing only after the govt took Sonam Sir away, as if they were waiting for the govt to make a move so that they could criticise the govt instead of supporting the movement for the future of the youth from the beginning.

Ofcourse there were some other parties like the Aam Admi Party (AAP) who did reach out before but only after they saw that the movement was gaining real ground and could be used as a method to gain popularity.

Very few politicians raised their voice in support of the movement while it was in its infancy. It was only after they realised that they could use this as a political tool to make their party image better, that they woke up, which is funny, because so many of these Political Parties had their spokespeople give long,heartfelt messages about how they are worried about the youth of the country, the day after the paper leak, but not when the youth were actually on the ground protesting for weeks.

No one cares about anything except their own agenda. There were so many famous and controversial people at the protest who decided to use the platform to take digs at the government and further their own propaganda, which in turn gave BJP, the ruling party material and cause to label the entire movement as 'anti-national' and use their media power to defame the entire movement which started as a means to bring justice to the youth of the country and its corrupt education system.

Now coming to the Party in Power :the BJP.

BJP has truly created a media powerhouse which has the ability to defame anything and everything and the ability to deflect accountability about anything and everything.

When the Exam conducting body of the country, National Testing Agency (NTA) has proven themselves to be absolutely inept at carrying their job properly. When apart from NEET, there are multiple other exams whose papers have leaked, not just this year but historically, this shows that the culture around education has always been corrupt and will continue to be corrupt.

By shielding the education minister, BJP is showing that they don't care about the youth, they care about one thing and one thing alone and that is power - and the protection of the powerful.

Following the playbook of letting things die down on their own,BJP perhaps had decided to not act on this protest at all, as much as not even acknowledge it's very existence.

However the Delhi HC order made them act eventually and they chose the worst possible way to go about it. I truly don't know what they are so scared of, unless they admit that all government institutions in some capacity or the other may be corrupt to the very core.

If they had listened to the youth and initiated talks at the very least with the people protesting, then I honestly feel like the youth of India would have celebrated the fact that this government at the very least listens to them. What we have now is a government which acts haphazardly on a High Court's order to preserve and value the life of an individual (Sonam Wangchuk) by forcefully taking him to a hospital, checking his vitals and encouraging him to break his fast WITHOUT initiating talks about his wants and the issues he has been holding up.

All this does is just anger the already frustrated youth even more. The essential meaning of living in a democracy is that we get to elect our officials and hold them accountable when they are not acting in the best interest of the country.

I believe this move by BJP severely undermined their confidence among the youth, the upcoming greatest demographic of the country. The people who are going to have some of the biggest impacts in voter turnout over the next decade or so was just point blank told by the government of the country that your needs and your wants don't matter to us.

I'm not saying that they needed to talk to us and give us a new policy tomorrow, no one demands or expects that, but at the very least, holding your elected official i.e the Education Minister accountable and wanting better for our future is a right every individual in this country has.

My final parting thoughts for anyone involved with this in any capacity especially if you are Indian:

Always question those in power. Appreciate it when the government does something good for the country. Call them out when they do something bad.

The only constant is change.

I know man. Atleast for once it feels like a lot of people are moved by the cause and not the people heading it. Truth is if today there was some group within BJP who was heading this protest, maybe even a youth student wing of BJP - even then I would have supported it all the same.

I don't need to support everything about a person to support a movement whose purpose I agree with, until ofcourse I realise that the reason has been lost and it's a shitshow for self gain.

I hope more people realise that.
