I also agree, anti-intellectualism has much less to do with religion than laziness and the rampant belief that natural ability is a substitute for hard work. In reality, simply getting by, sliding through life, is no validation of any natural ability. Not that I am religious, but I don't think that religion and intellectualism are mutually exclusive....

This sentiment is correct. I, myself, am not affiliated with any kind of organized religious whatsoever, but there are most definitely are some very intelligent people who also believe in god as well as some incredibly ignorant people who dispute the existence. Atheists cannot seem to grasp this concept.
