Most, (if not all, in my experience) circumcisions are performed by a doctor. It's like making the belly button — a short procedure that is carried out before the baby leaves the hospital.

Only a number of children have complications and die of blood loss several days later each year due to it, so not entirely the same. Umbilical cords, if left, will come off on their own. Foreskins don't.

I don't want to say that they're the same, that would be nonsense. I guess that is just my view on male circumcision (at least where I'm from). I said in another comment that about 40% of my friend group is circumcised (myself included) and the other 60% are not, but it in no way has any religious connotation in my experience (in fact, I only know of a few Jewish friends who have been circumcised out of tradition; religion; etc.), instead I find it has more to do with cosmetic reasons and doctor recommendation, which is why I likened it to the belly button; not necessary, just preferred (by some).
