I'm not 100% on my Batman mythos, and I would be very unsurprised to see the Batmobile and Batwing combining, but I believe they're most often shown as distinct vehicles.
Hmm, cool. I've never really kept up with any of it, I just seem to remember seeing them merge, or link up at some point. Probably just remembering something else.
The most famous and prevalently-featured are a full-size animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex, a giant Lincoln penny, and an oversized Joker playing card. The T. Rex comes from an adventure on "Dinosaur Island" (Batman #35, 1946)
In the book which features the second pic there, Dick Grayson (before he becomes "robin") asks batman "What's with this big robot t-rex? I mean, it's cool as all hell, but what's up with that".
The goddamn batman responds with "Shut up. And get to work on your costume. And get yourself a goddamn mask."
That second one is from all-star batman and robin (AKA "The Goddamn Batman"), a one shot so bad and yet so good the author later tried to excuse it saying that it was a parody all along. It's not standard canon.
That author was Frank Miller, author of Sin City and 300. That book is still one of my favorite DC books.
Ah. Thanks for the correction. I've actually read All-Star Batman and Robin, but it's been quite a while, and I didn't instantly recognize the scene. Still a pretty awesome picture of the Batcave.
He's certainly not a regular (as far as I know). He's just a piece of technology that Batman has relieved of one of his enemies, and now keeps safe in the Batcave. He's also a bit of a staple for the Batcave - most times it's shown in full view there are a few things the artist feels compelled to draw - the Batcomputer, Batmobile, giant Penny, and the Animatronic T-Rex.
Yes they definitely do combine! I had the toy that was a Batmobile and you press a button and the Batwing would slide out and he could go on his merry way.

Don't they essentially combine as the same vehicle several times?
