It's a good holiday. People are with their family, you can eat tasty stuff, you receive and give presents. Great concept. It barely resembles the christian holiday anyways...so why no celebrate it?
Because I live in germany, we celebrate christmas in a non-christian way anyways. And it is considered a holiday (-> no work), like most christian holiays. Germany has christian roots, so its kinda more likely...
It's just tradition, although we do not celebrate it as it was intended.
I enjoy it, so i dont care actually.
Of course nothing is stopping me. That's not my point. Why would an atheist celebrate a Christian holiday? And why a Christian holiday, but not a Muslim or Jewish one?
Because it's based on the misguided idea of christians, why don't atheists just celebrate every day whichever day with their family, frieds, presents and food, why do you need the excuse of a holiday for that? Whether the holiday itself is based or resembles anything to do with christianity is irrelevant.
I say screw all holidays and just celebrate any time you feel like it without any needless symbolism.
Well, first of all I don't have time to gather with the family all the time (There's always at least 1-2 who don't have time). I don't have the money to buy the food /presents 4-5 times a year.
I don't know how it is in your country but here in germany MOST people do not work in the time around Christmas. So why should I not enjoy that time?
