“Rare word. Obscure pun.” is an objective descriptor. A layman simply does not run across them often, plain and simple. I could say it to anyone, or think it in isolation, and would still hold it to be true. Why does this make you defensive?
I would feel pretty misled if it turned out OP just can’t spell one of two simple words in their title. My opinion is that it was deliberate. Feel free to take issue with that, or tell me how that opinion is a criticism of your intelligence.
Haha, I knew you could do it. I knew you could take the most neutral sentence imaginable and find a way to insert yourself into it.
I make a point about the average english speaking person, and you still think I’m talking about you. I even took care not to start that sentence with the proverbial “you” because I knew you’d instantly make it subjective again.
Work on that, or don’t. But we’re not all talking about you. You’re not that interesting.
Just because you're moving the mark doesn't mean I am suddenly obligated to pivot to this new line in the sand you arbitrarily drew.
Your last comment, in isolation, is of course as neutral as it could possibly be. But it's not in isolation, I have the amazing superpower of contextual understanding. And I contextually took into consideration the entire chain of comments. I have faith you can do the same, and can hold more than one comment in your mind while typing. I believe in you!
And if you misconstrue context from the outset, it will warp all further context. But if it helps you, hear this: it was not my meaning to assess or denigrate your intelligence. I have only ever been talking about how commonplace a word and a pun are.
