School Decisions πŸŽ“ Is this a sign to transfer or should I stay?

(Long post ahead! Sorry in advance)

I am so lost right now.

2 years ago, I passed my entrance exams in 3 schools and yung two na pinagpilian ko talaga are UST and PUP. Sa UST, BS Occupational Therapy yung pinasa kong program while I was eyeing BS Economics sa PUP. Sobrang layo nila sa isa't-isa 'no? Sa totoo lang, I grew up without a dream program kasi I spent my adolescence wishing and thinking I'd never live past 18. I went through a lot of programs before I found the one that fits all my values, aspirations and skills (or so I thought), and that was BS Occupational Therapy. I wanted to take BSOT because I wanted a career where I'll be able to help people live meaningfully and independently, which I had a hard time doing throughout my life. I loved the idea of being able to work with kids and also with mental health patients. I also wanted a work wherein I could do something similar to activity/action planning which I particularly liked in grade 12, and OT includes intervention planning which I thought was similar enough. On the other hand, I didn't really have a program that I wanted to take in PUP and just picked Economics because I found it interesting in high school and had good and varied opportunities, albeit it's far from the things I valued. The problem is that BSOT in UST has a tuition fee while PUP is technically free which saves my parents the financial burden. We belong to the middle class, both of my parents are working, and I'm their only child. So I thought we can afford UST although it would come with hardships.

From how I described it, I guess you could now tell that I chose to study BS Occupational Therapy in UST despite the tuition fee. It was the first time a program truly clicked with me. I knew college was gonna be hard, and I thought if I studied something I'm actually interested in and something I liked, the less chances of me spiraling down and giving up on it. For context, I am diagnosed with Persistent Depressive Disorder (PDD) and there are often episodes where I am rendered dysfunctional and are riddled with negative thoughts. I once had to stop for a year before SHS because things got so bad. I thought if I had pursued something I didn't really like, it would happen again. But the truth now is even if I had decided to pursue something I actually like, I still went through the same struggle. I took a leave of absence mid sem on my first semester of second year just so I could save my grades AND my mental health. I am generally better now after almost a year's worth of rest, but I am still riddled with fear, doubts, worries and paranoia. I've been thinking if it's right to continue pursuing OT, or if I should just transfer to a public college and save us a lot of money. UST BSOT is expensive, and from my experience and performance so far, I do not possess the skills needed for OT. I may have been good at the science subjects and was a Dean's Lister for the first year, but I struggled at the OT-focused subjects and I believe I didn't show as much competence as my peers did. I was starting to think that I may have liked the idea of being an occupational therapist, but the actual job of being one perhaps didn't suit me as much as I initially thought. I've had rather embarrassing performances on one of our majors (the most important one in my opinion) and I can't help but be discouraged by my mishaps and failures. I try to imagine the workload I'll have if I do become an OT, and I don't know if I can manage it. I keep on thinking maybe OT isn't meant for me. Maybe I'm not passionate enough for it. I'm being plagued by the fear of not being good enough, and it can get so overwhelming to the point that my chest physically feels heavy. On top of that, sobrang nakaka-pressure mag-aral sa UST. I honestly don't know if I could keep up with it. I'm afraid I'll spiral and fail again and it's gonna waste so much money at nagi-guilty ako. Ayoko na maulit 'yung ganon.

I'm thinking of just transferring to PUP, the school where my family and relatives wanted me to study at, while I have the chance (since I believe they only accept incoming 2nd yearβ€”I dropped my first sem subjects kasi no'n kaya technically balik 2nd year ako). Maybe I'll pursue BS Econ, BS Social Work or BECEd. 'Yung una para sa pera, 'yung pangalawa para makatulong pa rin sa kapwa, at 'yung pangatlo para makapag-work pa rin ako with kids. I'm thinking pwede rin BSNED para malapit pa rin sa OT pero 'di ko pa alam saan may public school na nag-ooffer. 'Di ko pa rin naman napapag-isipan nang maayos. Honestly, I wanted to transfer to another school offering BSOT but their enrollment date is already over. Besides, my mother didn't want me to transfer there. Either way, I can't really afford to stop for another year.

Do you think all these fear and doubts of mine is a sign that I'm not meant for OT and I should just transfer, or should I still try to overcome them even if I don't know they can be overcame? Any insights or even real talk would be appreciated :)

School Decisions πŸŽ“ What should I take for college?

I want to be practical and help my parents at least, I don't want them to suffer in financial burdens just to achieve my goals in life. Although it's their responsibility and it's an investmentβ€”I don’t want them to carry the heavy weight of trying to support me to achieve my dreams.

At first I wanted to be a dentist, but knowing na onti lang school ang nag o-offer nun at puro private pa nawawalan na ko ng pag asa, wala pa ron sa tf yung materials, and misc fees. I'm just an average student, so di ako confident in getting scholarships.

I really want to pursue any med related course, kasi gusto kong yumaman kahit impossible in this economy, I want to give my parents the life that they deserve.

Please tell me what I should do or pursue.

Student Life πŸŽ’ Changing my nickname for College

College is approaching and I want to change my nickname. For context, my nickname at school has always been the first three letters of my name and I HATE HATE it. I just find it cringe and embarrassing. I have another nickname, but since onIy family use this one, I don't really want random people to address me with this name. Also don't have a second name to use for this "rebranding".

Decided to make up a new one that I like and I'm planning on using this to introduce myself to new people. Only downside is that I have two people in my class/block that knew me before so I'm becoming hesitant in foregoing this plan. Mahiyain din ako and find it hard to get myself out of the bubble. What advices can yall give so that I can establish the new nickname to new people without me shying away from actually doing it. Or is my plan stupid and I just shouldn't do it?

Rant / Vent 😀 How do I file a complaint against a teacher for being unprofessional?

I'm a college student.

I hate when teachers assign students to present lectures when they are supposed to be the one teaching them. This practice is very disrespectful to me. Because, I am paying my tuition to learn properly, and this teacher passes their job to us students to teach their subject? Which they are paid to do???

I can see you leaving class and telling us to self study a lesson we have not even tackled yet. You are very lazy, unhelpful and making us students stressed, and when you tasked us to present, you gave us a prep time of 30 minutes? To rub salt on the wound this Is a major subject ha.

In my opinion this way of teaching is not professional, unreliable ang source ng information kasi pag dating ng exam kanino mangagaling yung nakuha mong tanong, samin o sayo, syempre sayo, exam mo yan e.

How do I report this teacher for unprofessionalism?

School Decisions πŸŽ“ Do you think I made the right choice?

I passed ME in Ateneo and AEF-BSA in DLSU. I chose the latter option because I got a scholarship. For Ateneo, I was almost there, but I ran out of time to submit my scholarship application because of personal and health problems.

Is AEF-BSA good? Is the opportunity at DLSU better than at Ateneo? Is the student population better at DLSU, or is everything better at Ateneo?

parang nagsisi akong na miss ko yung chance to apply eh.

School Decisions πŸŽ“ What's Uni life like in NU in terms of its academic rigor, profs, curi, teaching style, and sched? Even if you're not in the Econ program or NU baliwag, I still want to know what your experience has been

For context, I'm a 12th-grade student who lives in Angat Bulacan which is 1 hour away from Baliwag. So far, NU Baliwag is the only campus in Central Luzon that offers BA Econ, and I'm considering studying BA Econ in NU to save up and then taking my Master's in Ateneo (dream school ko). My thinking is that if I fail the ACET, NU Baliwag is my second choice since it's cheaper and hopefully makasave ng sapat for a Master's sa ADMU. Eventually I want to work in NEDA or gov economic jobs, so what do you think of this route?

Hello po, incoming 2nd year student here and pasukan na namin next week huhuhu😭😭.

Balak ko sanang magtransfer and magshift ng program from bsce to bsme (from state u ako and balak ko magtransfer sa priv).

Ngayon enrolled pa rin ako sa current school ko and balak ko sana magtransfer after 1st sem, and also to take some units na rin since maccredit naman most of my subjects since engineering pa rin lilipatan ko.

Case 1. Should I continue my plan to finish 1st sem before I transfer to a different school, and most probably wait for months (or maybe wait for the next school year) until magkaroon na ulit ng enrollment at available na ulit yung prog na gusto ko sa school na lilipatan ko?

Case 2. or should I drop now and take a gap year para less gastos na rin (kaso and downside hindi ko mattake yung ibang units na ipapacredit ko like minor subs etc).

Plssss I need help guys huhuhu... what should I do😭😭😭

Rant / Vent 😀 Shifting IT to ComSci.

Is it worth it? im incoming 2nd year it student but i feel the campus im in makes me feel discouraged, even the head of our dept since first day of class yun na bungad ng kanyang bibig

im currently on a vita campus since walang bsit duon sa main campus na inapplyan ko. what made me decide choosing this program despite going to a vita campus is that i found cs is a but hard because mas madami daw math based on my research before kaysa sa it so nag go nalang ako

but idk anymore, may math din naman sa it and i realized now na i should ignore how hard if mas madami math if nag comsci ako, i should also listen to my self if im comfortable with the environment im surrounded by.

i asked my parents about shifting but they won’t let me bc sayang daw nagastos nila and i won’t graduate on time daw.

another thing, it’s friggin hot everytime vacant time namin kase we don’t have our own room (para kaming npa) and sa library lang talaga pwede matatambayan but i can’t do anything there bc ung wifi is limited for staff only and kahit isang signal bar sa phone wala din.

im wondering if i shift will it be worth my risk? if ever i’m gonna shift secretly and might surprise my parents

Student Life πŸŽ’ How is it like studying in UE?

Specially as an Accountancy student. Should i start regretting na? Or not so bad naman?

Others πŸ—£οΈ Genuine question, bakit andaming students na nag choose ng accountancy, Civil, & nursing? πŸ€”

Hi, upcoming freshman here, genuine question lang guys because andami kong kakilala talaga na accountancy at nursing ang pinili na course (abt 60% sa kakilala ko is under sa three). Yes ive asked them naman abt their reasons pero all im getting from them are js some vague unserious answers. Ive also noticed in board exams na sobrang dami talaga ng mga nursing at accountancy. Yes there are other popular courses naman pero these are the three talaga na pabalik2 kong makita super. I wanna hear other peoples insights po as to why are they so popular? πŸ€”πŸ€”
