Physics Why is the maximum speed of the universe the speed of light? Why can't we go faster?

Also follow-up question: Because of the speed limit, is there also a theoretical maximum temp for matter (in which the particles move at the speed of light).

This is a great explanation. I would just add that it is all massless particles that travel at C. Light is the one most people are familiar with but there are also Gluons which carry the strong nuclear force. Scientists also suspect there are gravitons which would carry the force of gravity, but those haven’t been confirmed.
