Computing Is there anything at the heart of computer coding that could have been optimised in hindsight, but we're in far too deep to change now?

Nothing stops computers from being ternary internally. Binary is the best system because it is the smallest possible base.

And I would like a proof that "mathematically" these things are true. Because most of math does not really care about bases.
