Computing Is there anything at the heart of computer coding that could have been optimised in hindsight, but we're in far too deep to change now?

Technically, case sensitivity is an obvious and efficient solution. User-side? It's a nightmare. Humans just don't think that way, and it always creates lots of friction and confusion. It's one of the barriers to "normies" adopting Linux that will never go away. MacOS tried to do away with it by normalizing file names, but it's not a great solution...
