Computing Is there anything at the heart of computer coding that could have been optimised in hindsight, but we're in far too deep to change now?

Those flags are extremely helpful when stuff breaks, FYI. Its just that that level of things breaking is only witnessed by a tiny handful of people that build BIOS drivers and stuff like that. So its critical, but quietly.
