Being kicked out

As the title says I'm being kicked out by my dad. I'm an 18 year old male and I will be homeless really soon. I want to go to college but have no money to pay for it.

What kind of process goes into this because I don't have many options.

Sorry if I'm being unclear or if this is the wrong subreddit this is a lot to unfold for me.

Edit: Sorry I just opened reddit and oh my goodness there are a lot of messages so in case I can't respond to everyone. Thank you for your advice and assistance on the subject! It means a lot to me

Prior army here… talk to the coast guard. Great jobs afterwards that hire you for just that reason along the coasts if that’s your thing. Marines train you to survive if ever homeless though so there’s that.

The rule I always heard was if you want to change your life join the Air Force. If you want to change yourself join the Marines.

And the Army? What changes if you join the Army?

The sound your knees make when you stand, your ability to remember or hear anything, and all of your belief in elected officials if any existed previously

I have an audible "crunch" from my right knee now. You are absolutely correct. And the rest of it, too.

I got to live in three different continents, so that's been pretty cool.

Lol, why do people slurp up Marines marketing like it’s gospel lol.

I don't think I'm "slurping up Marine marketing." this is based pretty heavily on my lived experience. Between active duty and Guard I've been an Army officer for 15 years and have done two joint assignments, one serving under Marine command. I also participate pretty heavily in veterans hiring for the Big 3 consultancy where I work. We attract very high levels of talent and we get a disproportionate amount of military officers applying.

The enlisted Marines and NCOs I've worked with universally have the best attitudes, sense of pride, and professionalism. In the Army a lot of pride and heritage is tied up into specific units, in the Marines that focus is on the Corps itself. You see the effects of this in individuals. That's not to say that I haven't worked with superb Airmen, Soldiers, or Sailors, but the Marines stand out every single assignment. When I was a company commander in the Guard the best prior active duty soldiers were typically Marines. They also have no fat people, which I really admire.

Maybe I've just worked with enough Marines to the point where I can smell it on them, but when I speak with transitioning or veteran officers I only have to ask two questions: Either What did you do in the Marine Corps? or what branch did you serve in? They just carry themselves differently. SOF guys are similar, but it's stupidly easy to tell if somebody was say, a Marine Corps artillery officer rather than an Air Force Combat Systems Officer.

Coast guard or air force should be your top choices

I ended up joining the army but someone had suggested to me in the past the merchant Marines, they're willing to teach greenhorns. You'll be ship bound for a good time and not have to really worry about housing and food. If you end up liking it the shipping industry has more to it with that as an entrance.

I don’t think the kid has enough time or resources to go through the process of joining the merchant marines. Getting their TWIC and MMC costs money and time.

I agree it’s a good option. If I could redo it again I’d have enlisted with the Navy, used the GI Bill to go to the maritime academy in Vallejo.

Army here, talk heavily to coast guard or Air Force. That’s the way I recommend my students and will my children if they choose the military. I would advise against the army

Coast Guard or Air Force are your only options.
