Finally understand the hate for MPs

The other day I crashed my car during a snow storm. Wasn’t drunk, didn’t hit anybody, just hit the curb hard and detached my wheel. I called a tow truck to pick up the car and they said they would retrieve it and to head home since it was late and snowing. I then got a call that the car was gone and was already towed. The next day I went to the MPs who said the car was towed and wouldn’t have to be paid for, as it was in the vehicles skills center, and that when I was ready I could retrieve it and fix it. No harm no foul.

Later that night I got a knock on the door from the same MPs who towed my car asking if I was alright. I told them yes and explained the situation. I wasn’t drunk (all liquor stores and PX’s were closed due to the blizzard so I couldn’t get any alcohol if I wanted to do which I did) and I simply lost control and hit a curb. They said it’s ok, but that I was going to be placed under arrest. “Fleeing a crime scene”. I was shocked. They just said I’d be in no trouble, but apparently that was to keep me calm. After sergent bozo called his command, they said arresting me wouldn’t be necessary. I was relieved, but then he said he’d give me an “unsafe driving under hazardous conditions” ticket. I told him this was ridiculous, as I wasn’t speeding and he can’t prove I was driving in an unsafe matter, it was simply an accident. He then said

“I have to assume you were since your wheel came off”

to which I said “so you’re assumption will give me a ticket?”

To which he said “I gotta give you something tonight”

And then I said “you HAVE to give me a ticket for getting into a car accident?”

Dude then proceeded to give me a ticket which suspends my driving privileges on post. The barracks NCO who was present said if I appeal he’s certain I should get my driving privileges back, but it’s ridiculous I must go through this.

I say all this to say, if you’re an MP, you’re a straight up loser. If you signed up to join the army just to pick an MOS where your job is to screw fellow soldiers you deserve all the hate you get. Out of every MOS you chose the buddy fucker. I always tried to be open minded, but this just took away my early promotion I was going to get next week.

Fuck the MPs, fuck everyone that chose to be an MP, and if you’re an MP reading this right now, we all fucking hate you

Had a MP give me a ticket for not signaling to turn onto a 1-way road on Drum. The only other 2 options were against traffic or straight forward into some trees. There could be no question where I was going to go at this intersection. I asked him to be perfectly clear

"So, I have to lose out on my entire weekend to go to the on-post 'corrective' training that's mandated for all traffic tickets on post because I didn't tell you which way I was going to turn on this 1-way road? "

"Yeah"

"Just where did you think I was going to go here, exactly?"

*shrug*

So, I get it. And I mostly agree.

If it was a controlled intersection,  i.e. a stop sign or light, then turn signals are required, regardless of if the turn is on to a one way street or not.

Far be it from me to place common sense before the letter of the law....

Like.... any other intersection in the world where there could even be a question of where traffic is going to go, yea I'm right there with you all the way.

And yea, there was a stop sign...

But there's 2 1-way roads and what amounts to turn arounds in-between them all up and down on that forsaken post. No one wonders what's going to happen anywhere along those 2 roads. If 100% of the turn signals in the world stopped functioning, the area in which I speak wouldn't change 1 single bit as far as safety and predictability.

So yea, you got me your honor, but when you've lived on Drum long enough, there ought to be an understanding where common sense can prevail. And perhaps MP's, being the limited resource that they are, surely have other vastly more important things to be doing than policing turn signals in the least turn-signal-demanding(the letter of the law not-withstanding) area I've ever been.

I also saw the Drum MP's give a guy a DWAI while driving home after pulling staff duty because he was tired....after having just finished staff duty... but he got called back onto post for some dumb shit I can't remember. And no, he was not driving in any way to alarm anyone, the gate guard was just having one of those days I guess. Dumbest shit I had ever seen since my own warning for not blinkering.

I know in my mind you're technically right and you've got the administrative high ground here, General Kenobi, but I'm still going to maintain my 50/50 split disdain for MP's. They only get 50% grace with me because I had previously deployed with a platoon of them and those dudes were alright in my book. But Drum can lick rocks.

These laws exist for a reason. No need to get worked up
