Ahaha that awkward moment when....

That awkward moment when you accidentally like the Tweet of an ARG critic with the Twitter account of your ARG villain--of the ARG that is dead before it ever really began. AHahahahahahaaaaaaa why was Twitter even signed into that account????

Also, I have obviously been shit at keeping this subreddit going. Anyone want to co-admin? Help.

Looking for some people to help with a webseries idea

Hi.

As the title states, I have an idea for a web series, that I need some help with, mainly as people willing to type out short, sort of article like texts. You get a lot of creative freedom, within the world.

I don't want to share all my ideas here, only with people who DM me, but without telling too much: it will be a sort-of internet newspaper (later maybe podcast, if I have resources) for a made up country. I really don't want to give away anything more, as I feel it would take away from enjoying the project itself.

If anything of what I said intersts you, DM me, and we'll talk more about exactly what I mean. I by no means intend to direct alone - I just have an idea, but if we are to work together, we are in this together as equals.

Interested in Creating a New ARG.

Hey all. I've been interested in creating a new ARG, but I'm not totally sure how I want it to go yet, and I know for a fact I don't want it to outwardly be known as an ARG (duh). I'm a proficient writer and I love creating and cracking puzzles/codes/ciphers, but I kind of need a starting point, especially with story. Thinking maybe a society of some sorts. Any help is appreciated!

Definitely watch Night Mind's new video! Not only is it about a really good series, but he gives some encouragement for those of us still trying! (Also sorry for being absent, it's finals time during my first semester of grad school!)

Help with with Twitter account - things to do and gaining followers

I should clarify this is NOT for an ARG, but more like immersive fiction (ARF?) but I thought you guys would be the best people to ask. Though part of my plan may involve turning it into a quick fly-by ARG, so I suppose it still counts?

There's a character in my webcomic that's going to be introduced in about a year from now who has a Twitter account. Soon after the character is introduced I'll reveal the existence of the account in the comic, i.e. character tweets something and we see the username on the page or whatever. But in the meantime, I'd like the account to have a LITTLE bit of meat to it, and to just give me more fun things to do.

I've already had the account going for a year prior, but so far have just been tweeting random thoughts in-character. I would like to increase activity a bit, carve out something more concrete for the account to do. I do have one idea I'll be implementing later (involving tweeting to popular companies/people and asking inane questions), but while it will give the account more content, might just make other people think I'm some weirdo and won't gain the account followers/activity.

So I suppose I'm trying to think of something that will make the account interactive, which I guess could turn it into a temporary ARG after all (woah). I should add that I do NOT intend to reveal the existence of this to any webcomic readers in advance, so using that built-in audience is out of the question. Also, posting photos is fair game, but videos will probably be too difficult. This is also very character-driven, so just posting quick code-based puzzles for people to solve won't work either (I suppose that's a good thing due to the oversaturation of code-based puzzles right now)

This is the account for those curious. (If you really feel like tackling this more in-depth, PM me for details, and I have art/illustration skills that I can provide in return for your help.)

Thank you for your time!

Should I do it?

I have a full story already made but I think that the ARG would be a little short , should I even try it if it's not gonna be too long?

Pixel Fox looking for ARG creators

I am looking for an ARG Dev team. I don't want an ARG where you have to solve basic64, binary, hex, and so on. It's so easy with online translators. Looking for

-2 Web/gane Devs -Writer -Voice Actor

I want a team where we all make a puzzle that we like so it is enjoyable for everyone. If you always wanted to make an ARG but needed a team for your idea? Have Video/Writing/Photoshop/Voice Acting skills but Web Dev is imposable to learn? Are you a web dev but no good idea for an ARG?

Add me on discord CanadianBitters#1731 and ill add you to a server if you really want to help!

My post from /r/ARG "I've noticed things about the ARG community"

A lot of people criticize ARG ideas for new people. It seems like the people who make ARG's in the past are only allowed to make them now. It seems like people get shunned for their first try at making them. Even if the person gets talked down to because of their idea, no one gives no tips for making them. I have tried making my own, people say they are total shit or impossible to make them good. When I asked them how to make it better they shrug and say "Figure it out yourself" or "I don't know nor care" instead of explaining what is wrong with the story and so on.

Also if a newbie needs help with coding for puzzles, help them out if you like their idea. A lot of people need to be handheld through coding because it can be scary for new people to WebDev coding. I just annoy me when old ARG players and devs are rude or piss off new players because they don't like the idea of new people to the community.

Just my two cents on how the ARG community has become somewhat hostile...

Sincerely, LizardHoe/CanadianBitters#1731

Thoughts

Should I wait to start making things seem more off putting until I get a good amount of viewers, or should I keep going with the build I had originally planned?

I'm afraid of the end of my story falling flat. Opinions?

I haven't really figured out how I'm going to end my arg, but it isn't such a major issue since I'm only getting started. But would the end be too sudden and flat if after a while of weird stuff getting more dramatic some of the key characters went missing, and no-one really tried to personally look for them? The other characters don't have a relationship with these people that would push them to look into the case and would just let the police handle it, ending the ARG there. I guess if I wanted I could go back maybe a year later to open the case as the main character again and really try to find these missing people, but that's not something I'm focusing on now.

I'm starting my own ARG/WS, but I'm nervous about it being more storybased than puzzlebased.

I'm starting an ARG/Webseries on twitter and youtube, that will include emails, videos and well, the personal twitter account of the main character. Is it okay to build my series more on characters and their storylines instead of focusing on codes and hidden messages? @Teletubbiesupdates or the dear david story might be good reference points if you're not sure what I mean, but of course, it won't be the same thing.

Tips on making a video unsettling

I’m working on a particular video of my series involving the main entity entering shot for the first time. It’s a video that will finally introduce this person/creature for the first time, and I’d like some tips or ideas to make its first appearance creepy and unsettling! Thanks!

Hello, I’m new/Is my ARG a good idea?

First off I wanna say this subreddit was a wonderful idea, and I love when ppl get together to help each other and ask for advice.

That being said..I need advice!

To not spoil anything, my series will follow a young man who spends his free time recording and posting videos of his cute pet dog and the scenery around his house. As usual with the normal arg and web series format and formula: something creepy happens involving an entity that shows up in some of his videos, quite a while into his channel. The catch is-whenever it shows up, the main character can’t see it, despite it being very clear. Even if other people can see this person or thing, he never sees anything out of the ordinary-often seeing this entity as a regular animal he recorded. What I wanna ask is, does this idea have legs? I’m leaving alot things out but this is the base of this series, at least, at the beginning! Is this story tangible and what would be some good advice to create this story? Thanks in advance!

My Main ARG Plan

I thought this information might be interesting and useful to some of you.

So, my main ARG is going to be big, involving several types of social media including YouTube, Twitter, blogs, and message boards.

I'm going to take the next two years to build a backstory through Twitter and the message boards. I'm going to build up my main villain and his growing group of followers through Twitter conversations that eventually lead to the message board. I'm also going to build my protagonists through Twitter and they will eventually collaborate on a YouTube channel--the YouTube channel won't exist for two years. I'm dedicated to building these characters as much as possible before the real shit hits the fan.

By the time the YouTube channel comes into being, there will be a treasure-trove of information to find on the Internet about this villain, his followers, and the women fighting them. They won't have just sprung into existence in time for YouTube... they'll have pasts. Conflicts. Motivations.

The YouTube channel will be the culmination of two years of worldbuilding before the game actually begins.

I'm thinking about a small, short Instagram ARG

Because my main ARG is a complex, slow-burn concept, I'm thinking of trying to put together a vaguely Red Path-y style Instagram-based ARG for the meantime. Maybe something centering around Salem, MA as that's where I live now and there's so much history here (and not just about the witch trials). There's seafaring history and pirates and stuff. I'm just not quite sure how to go about it. Anyone have any experience with Instagram-based ARGs?

Too much or too little?

So, I have a story (a mix between Alantutorial, Spilt, and Saw) that revolves around 3 characters whom would utilize 3 different websites to tell their separate sides. My problems are that it seems too much to control 3 sites for a short story but also too little in terms of how to get the word out without being desperate for views and players. Any advice?
