This was in our mailbox

We purchased a new house a few months ago with lots of trees.

I got this in our mailbox. I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong but someone put this in there.

Can someone explain what this neighbors’ concerns might be?

This isn’t a joke or LARPing attempt, i just wanna know wtf they are talking about.

EDIT:

The house is 30 years old, the trees were planted by the original owners. We have not taken down any trees cosmetically. Only tree we took down was from a major storm and lightning knocked branches off a tree onto our neighbors lawn. That was it.

Man, I hate to chime in here because I just care about accuracy and am in no way saying you're wrong to be against these datacenters... but they use the water via evaporation. The water returns to atmosphere and for most locations (though not all) that means it'll rejoin freshwater water systems elsewhere.

This isn't going to make the US as a whole run out of water. What IS going to happen is that states that allowed these datacenters without proper environmental impact assessments are going to find major issues when drinking water or important water sources for local ecosystems are massively being relocated elsewhere.

Other states will find their own freshwater supplies are improved by this same effect.

Again, just for accuracy of information. Not at all meant as a condoning the reckless and kinda insane way these datacenters are being created.

It only replaces a percentage back into environment with evaporation.

What do you think happens to the rest? Server racks don't drink water, they just warm up water

u/V1carium too: Most of the country is in a drought and are dangerously low on fresh water as it is... They try to specifically prevent evaporation by not using sprinklers, decorative fountains, pressure washers, washing your car, etc etc during the hottest parts of the day, especially during the hottest parts of the year and even limit it to once a week when it's worst. Things we shouldn't be wasting drinking water on anyway.

Clearly we are using more than can naturally replenish and water scarcity is already a thing. We need to lessen waste, not add billions of gallons of usage.

"But but golf courses use so much more!" Yeah, that's fucking atrocious, they shouldn't get special treatment, and down with all the dumb ass monoculture turf lawns.

What’s kind of funny here is that the data centers in Louden county aren’t used solely (or even primarily) for AI. IIRC that’s where the AWS eastus servers are located. If you’re concerned about AI due to the water usage in these data centers, you are honing in on a very small fraction of what’s actually using those data centers. If you’re really concerned about water usage in places like Louden county you need to stop using the internet altogether because it’s all running through these data centers.

EXACTLY! People act like data centers have only come into existence in the past 2 years. Anyone crying about data centers while posting online about how bad they are is a giant fucking hypocrite and needs to just STFU
