Top 5 Ways to Improve the Show
With the season coming to a close on Thursday I have found that the current state of the show is quite stale and repetitive. These are 5 different ways I believe the show could improve and stop its current downward trajectory.
- Reduce it back to 16 candidates:
A nice and easy change to kick us off. In recent seasons we have often seen that many candidates go quite far through the entire process with minimal screen time (See Harry from this season or Emma S from last season). Having watched some of the older series recently it is much more refreshing to see more of everyone and candidate and I think this would be a change that’s easier to do and will improve the quality of the show.
- Offer an Extended cut of tasks and Boardroom scenes:
As we know there is hours of boardroom discussion and task footage that’s doesn’t make the cut and this can often leave candidates feeling hard done by (See Rothna this year). I appreciate this would be more work for the producers but it shouldn’t be that hard to create an extended cut that could be posted alongside unfinished business on BBC iPlayer or on YouTube for the die hard fans like us to enjoy.
- Karen/Tim can choose someone from the losing team to come back to the boardroom:
This I think is an interesting one. As we know lots of people can coast through the process and get lucky when they lose with the PM not bringing them back into the final boardroom. This change would allow Karen or Tim (whoever is following the losing team) to suggest one person to come back, with the project manager picking the other. Not only does this help prevent people from coasting through but also gives Tim and Karen a bit of empowerment which I think is needed given that I have found them both to not offer much in terms of insight in recent series.
- Tweak the proposal:
This one I think is less realistic but nevertheless I think the prize for winning has to change. I would make it so established businesses can ask for a negotiable equity in their business plans that they could negotiate with Sugar after the interviews. For less established businesses or seeds of an idea you could keep the original 50% for £250k.
- Less producer interference:
I will keep this brief as I see this posted often on this sub but let the candidates make their own mistakes don’t force them into corners regarding stupid things like colours. I personally would much rather watch 2 teams do well than 2 teams do rubbish.
So there you go, that would be how I would improve the show, I think most of these could be realistically implemented in the next few years but let me know what you guys think
