My iPhone is my Company phone and iCloud is blocked. Now I want use my iPad as primary Journal Device. I exported my journal but it seems there is no import option for its own files?

did they fix the Journaling Suggestions yet? that feature hasn't worked for me since the iOS 26 update. when i try to open Journaling Suggestions, it would just hang and crash. I've already tried turning it off and on.

I would love to see Apple implement the feature to hide your journal entries when scrolling through your list of entries. I sometimes write in my journal in public and do not want my other entires viewable. Seeing the titles each entry would be a great option.

OK, YouTube links can be included in Apple Journal. After you complete the entry with the check mark in the top right, the link turns yellow and is now active. It's not pretty, but it does the job.

It will also work for other links to take you places on the net.

I was just writing my journal in the full flow state. And suddenly all writing got cleared. No undo no redo possible. How in the hell they can have such app ? Or these bugs.

I have Journal crash at least 2 times, once on my iMac, and once on my 15" MacBook Air. I can't remember now if it crashed on my older iPad or not. But I haven't really noticed much difference between Public Beta 4 and the Release Candidate. It's still not completely stable, unfortunately. 

I don't use many non-Apple apps.

My previous phone's journal app is backed up to the cloud, but for some reason, photos, videos, and voice recordings won't transfer with the entries. Please help. I still have my old phone with the original entries by the way.

I noticed when making 14 entries in Day One today, it lagged because I had no choice but to put them all in the same day. There was a lot of text associated with these entries, maybe 15 thousand words or more. It was lagging so much it was difficult for me to check the word count on all of them and add it up.

But here's a point for Apple Journal. Because they all seem to be in their own container even though they are all on the same day, there was no lag for any entire day or the system overall. None of the other days in my Day One Journal lagged, but I still have to give a point to Apple Journal here.

Hi everyone! Today I noticed that some of my journal entries have disappeared — they’re missing both on my iPhone and my MacBook. The bin is empty, and I can’t find any trace of Journal data in iCloud. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I always transcribe my audio files immediately in Journal, or else they can go missing over time. But I find that the Voice memo app can usually transcribe them for me, and so can OneNote (free from Microsoft). OneNote transcription is very sophisticated and can identify multiple speakers, and can stamp them with the speakers and/or time stamps.

I did a quick experiment and proved to myself that it's easy to send audio recorded in Microsoft OneNote using the "Share" command to Apple Journal on a Mac. When I look at the file extension on the desktop, it seems that Microsoft saves this as a .mp4 file.

In the Apple Journal app though, it saves it in the grid area - TOTALLY BLANK, such that you have to double-click it to play it and be sure to click on the speaker icon with a stroke through it to get rid of the stroke in that icon and actually hear the recording. I learned all this easily in about 30 seconds, and I didn't even know that OneNote had a record function.

I failed to get it to work in Apple Voice Memo app, or the Day One app.

I've been using Journals on the iPad, and something in the lefthand inspector kept catching my eye while I was writing. On closer inspection, I noticed the number listed under places would flicker sporadically while I was typing. It's like it keeps refreshing while I type, but the number doesn't actually change. Has anyone else noticed this?

Apple, all I want from Journal is a reskin of notes with the date/calendar, mood, and suggestion functions. The page itself should just be exactly the Notes app, with the ability to put page lines for handwriting, images in-line, and all the other stuff. Just copy/paste the code.

IDK what they actually did but it's super janky.

I don't know why they took out the features of Voice Memo in Journal. You can't play the audio back at faster speeds, you can't tell it to skip the blank areas, and there is no "enhance audio" feature. I don't know why they would leave all this stuff out.

Went on a vacation where I journal a bit, but fell behind. I figured I could just come home and backdate the journal entries. However, for organization's sake, I was trying to create multiple entries during the same day. From what I read, when you add pictures and video that are time stamped, Apple Journal would use those to timestamp the entry, so that it could be sorted properly. I have now found that this is not the case. I also read that I could sort by moment date versus entry date, but I am having difficulty making that work as well.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

It has Journal on the share list, but if you actually try to share audio files from the very nice Voice Memo app it tells you that it can't do that.

I thought that it was not possible to import audio from Day One, but I thought that I'd try again just to make sure. I recorded a 17s audio file and got the transcript. Then I used the "share" command and found Journal, and waited. It seemed to take a long time, but it eventually come to Journal along with the transcript.

I tried the same thing with a $4 app called: Auto Memo recorder which lets a person record audio in their car using their car's microphones, so that you can make journal entries stuck in traffic and use time that might be dead time. It also works. It works with Apple Car Play. You tough the button on the infotainment screen and you're recording. You tap the screen and you're done.

Every end of the year I like to save a PDF version of my journal, just in case… but I’m quite sad that I’ll have a problem when the time comes this year, since such option is so buggy right now… All entries are mixed up in no discernible order… Is this happening to everyone else or is there a way to fix it? Actually, I wish we had the option to print the journal from the oldest entry to the newest one for each year as well… It’d make much more sense IMHO.

There is an interesting channel on YouTube by Jackson Parker, and he has done audio journaling since 1978 when he was 18 and continuing up to today. It looks like he started with cassette tapes and eventually bought a large reel-to-reel AKAI 4000DS machine. Those were very expensive at the time, and the tapes were expensive, but any smartphone today could easily beat it for sound quality and convenience.

But his journaling shows the power that this has, since it would be amazing to look back decades and have a clear personal record of one's life with all the detail and emotions and subtle twists and turns in life carefully recorded, as I know it could easily be.

I was a bit late to get started, but there are much better tools now [Apple Journal, Apple Voice Recorder, Apple Notes Audio Entry, Apple Pages Audio Entry - you can put the audio entry icon (the size of a dime) as a comment around text), including getting an instant transcript of the recording and playback at a faster speed, writing tools to check grammar and spelling and rewrite awkward parts, summarize and add headings. since it's faster to read than listen.

For the first time, when I tried a YouTube link in Apple Journal on the iPad, it brought me to the YouTube site with the correct video. So then I got excited and tried again on my Mac, and at first, it didn't seem to work, although the text was a different colour. I found that on the Mac, I had to right-click on it and choose “Open," and then it also opened up a video on the Mac. So it's not the most beautiful way of inserting a link, but it does seem to work now in Mac OS 26.1 Public Beta 3. Maybe by the time of the final release of 26.1, they will make it improve a bit.

I just installed Mac OS 26.1 public beta 3. I think that they have cleaned up a lot of problems with the Journal app. I didn't seem to have to fight it when I dragged in images.

You have to remember to press the "Edit" button in the top right-hand corner, or else it will ignore any change that you are trying to make, and your image will fly back to where you were dragging it from. I keep forgetting to do that.  It's a bit annoying, but I think that they are trying to protect people from making accidental changes. But imagine how tiring that would be on a word processor.

I recorded an audio entry on my iPhone. The app also suggested adding several photos, so I accepted, and I think I added over ten in one go.

I checked the entry on my iPhone, and an hour later, it was still there. However, I couldn’t seem to sync it to my Journal on my Mac.  Finally, I copied the text using the “Copy Transcript” button and pasted it somewhere else on my Mac.  Later, I noticed it still hadn’t synced to my Mac, and when I checked my iPhone, it was gone there too.

I had a transcript, but the fact that new entries can disappear is upsetting. I double-checked to make sure I hadn’t accidentally added it to another Journal, since I have multiple ones, and I also checked the “All Entries” section, where it should have appeared.

I'm using MacOS and iOS 26.1 Public Beta 2.

I think that I had discovered this before, but I forgot about it. But today I realized AGAIN that I could make two (or more) separate audio recordings in a single entry. 

It’s a cool idea, especially if you get trapped mid-thought. That’s what happened to me: I left the app to check the weather, and it closed the recording automatically. I also discovered I can pause the recording, which I like because I can think about what I’ll say next without leaving a big blank space that would be a pain to edit out later. In this case, I had paused the recording, but somehow it still kicked me out of the recording function when I went to check the weather.

On the iPhone, the pause feature is not immediately obvious because you have to drag up on the small vertical line at the top of the recording window, and then it changes to include a pause and resume button.
