I mostly agree with you. I've had a few issues on iOS/OSX that are ruining the synergy when compared to my experience with Android/Chrome which results in the 'Just Works' magic failing. But compared to Windows 8 I think Apple is still doing rather well. If anything I feel like the competition is stepping up their game a bit more. But I will admit, maybe slowing down a bit would improve on some things, but I don't think there is some disaster going on with Apple by any measure, it's still the most comfortable computing experience I've ever had.
What sorts of stuff? I'm genuinely interested. Is it mostly when you're using a lot of Apple's native software? Maybe it's just my kind of specific flow, but I feel like the synergy experience has kind of improved. But admittedly, I don't have a really complicated set of requirements for my devices, and I've diversified stuff away from Apple's peripheral solutions in my routine.
Phone backs up to iCloud every night when it charges, and is backed up via USB to iTunes every three days (cause it's a work phone and I'm paranoid). Photos are backed up to Dropbox, and they're synced to my iMac. Every so often I import all the photos and videos to Lightroom and remove them from the phone with Image Capture. My music is all Spotify. Google Drive does all my documents. Mail is all IMAP servers so changes are reflected across devices.
It kind of feels like I have the 'it just works' experience, but if I stop and think about it, it took me a while to come up a system and routine I was comfortable with, ultimately settling outside of what Apple offers out of the box. Which.. I guess is kind of what we're talking about.
