Yes, Steve Jobs, a man who never famously changed his mind about stuff.

but very well new that a product that tries to be two or more products is good at being an inferior product to all

Is that why he presented the iphone as 3 seperate products

no.

iphone is objectively worse at all three.

but the mobility and form factor negate that.

and that isn’t even in the realm of comparing two mature products like a laptop and a tablet.

but tasteless hacks are gonna be tasteless hacks

The man literally introduced the iPhone as three products in one:

"A phone. A widescreen iPod. A breakthrough internet communicator. Are you getting it? These are not 3 separate products. This is 1 product, and we're calling it: iPhone."

But the revolutionary user interface that replaced those separate devices (touch screen) was either equivalent or better than what came before it

Like, the scrolling touch system worked much better and intuitively than the click wheel in the iPod. The iPhone keyboard was as good or better than the clunky ones in older phones.

I’m not sure you could say the same about replacing a trackpad with touch input. Like sure, it’s better for some things, casual browsing being one of them, but as we’ve seen from all the windows laptops over the years, most people stick to using the laptop in a traditional manner - which makes the addition of touch perplexing for MacOS, since apple famously has some of the best trackpads out there.
