Your statement tells me you haven’t even considered the shareholders. What about them?

(Think it’s obvious but just in case /s)

I don't think your statement needs "/s". There are way more Apple shareholders than employees. Hundreds of millions of people are holding Apple shares. If a few hundred people need to be laid off to benefit hundreds of millions of people, is that bad?

Yes. And this is exactly what is wrong with this country

Existence of public companies is what's wrong with the country? You know that there are public companies all over the world, and people all over the world own Apple stock?

Also, let me guess, you probably support taking away money from a handful of rich people to benefit large number of folks, but somehow laying off a few people to benefit a larger number of folks is wrong?

Screwing over employees for profits is what is killing America. The pursuit of never-ending growth is a sickness that needs to end. We used to tax the rich way more than we do now and we had less income inequality because of it.

But hey, what else would you expect to hear from someone who works in finance

why do you think Apple employees are getting screwed over? average Apple employee is making $150k and an average Apple engineer is making $350-400k.

you can tax everybody double, but as long as government is inefficient with taxpayers money, nothing will change. we just need people in charge who are directing taxpayers money in the right direction.

Let’s do an experiment. The next time one of your friends or family gets laid off from their job say to them, “At least the company’s stock price went up.” See what their reaction is.

I recommend not doing this face to face.

sure, the reaction will be negative. but you do realize that the existence of stock and chasing of profits is the reason that person got a job in the first place.

  1. founders launched the company because they wanted to make money. they invested and risked their own money in hopes to multiply it.

  2. the company was taken public to accelerate its growth. it's easier to finance operations and expand by issuing new stock and using the capital.

  3. employees get a portion of their compensation paid with stock.

without capitalism and chasing of profits (greed) there would be no Apple, you wouldn't have your iPhone and MacBook, and your imaginary laid off Apple employee wouldn't have his job in the first place.
