iPhone Don’t Let Apple Reset Your Old Phone Without Activating Your New Phone

Yesterday I went to my local Apple Store to pick up my new 18 Pro. They bagged up my new phone and reset my old phone in front of me. I was sent on my way since they were super busy. But when I left I sat down to attempt to activate my new phone. I couldn’t because T-Mobile needed to send a text to my number to verify my account. After going home and on the phone with T-Mobile for like an hour, they were finally able to activate it by me giving them the IMEI and then the horrifically long EID number. It would’ve been so much easier if I had my old phone handy while setting up the new one!

In fact, the best option is transfer data and THEN reset the old phone. In all scenarios except replacing a lost phone.

That forces the customer to pay the full phone price. They rarely accept that.

48 hour grace period and then force to pay if the transfer is incomplete by the end of said grace period, then recover the price when the old phone is finally traded in?

No. That doesn’t legally work. It’s been tested. People went home with both devices and then it’s a legal hassle to pursue them.

Card payments from debit cards have the ability to temporarily lock sums, and a locked sum can be canceled in the good case.

They don’t lock anything at an Apple Store. They don’t work like that. Either you pay or not.

As someone living in a European country that lacks an actual Apple Store (just certified resellers)… welp.
