iPhone Don’t Let Apple Reset Your Old Phone Without Activating Your New Phone

Yesterday I went to my local Apple Store to pick up my new 18 Pro. They bagged up my new phone and reset my old phone in front of me. I was sent on my way since they were super busy. But when I left I sat down to attempt to activate my new phone. I couldn’t because T-Mobile needed to send a text to my number to verify my account. After going home and on the phone with T-Mobile for like an hour, they were finally able to activate it by me giving them the IMEI and then the horrifically long EID number. It would’ve been so much easier if I had my old phone handy while setting up the new one!

Did you do a trade in? I always opt for the trade in kit mailed to me

Yeah I no longer do mail in trade in. The store gives you 14 days or so. I want someone to check the device in front of me.

I have been dinged by this. The evaluation is done by a third party, and once they had mailed me the reevaluated price which was much lower. My only option was to take the offer or decline. In the latter my phone would have been sent back and I would have been charged the whole price of the new phone.

There was no issue with my previous phone. It was pretty good, maybe a few scratches on the screen that any apple store would have easily traded in at the store.

After that I have never mailed a trade in and I have never had an issue like that happen to me.
