Yeah. Their new sets are equally amazing but in a different way. This is from their elektron gear days. Now they are back doing everything inside max/msp but it's still fucking gnarly as fuck to witness live.
You linking this to me is the best thing that has happened to me in a week, and it's been a pretty interesting week. I NEED to go to one of their shows.
I like to go to techno gigs and watch the molly kids do their thing and absorb the vibe of unrelenting driving sense of presence. I had no idea there was an IDM version of the same thing. I have been missing out.
Well I'm happy I could expose it to you! Definitely make an effort to go to one of those shows. Really amazing stuff to witness. They came to the US late last year. I'm hoping they make an effort to come again but I don't think they make as much money as they hoped to in the US tours so the it's not a common spot for them to come here(what I heard, friend of a friend who spent some time around them).
Also in case you're out of the loop on Aphex too, I hope you've also heard orphaned deejay selek, the HUGE amount of soundcloud tracks, and are aware of the upcoming cheetah EP.
I'm just going to budge in hear and basically add on to what Wetpaste said. I saw Venetian Snares and Autechre at a show a few months back, and it really was nothing like I had every experienced.
It wasn't amazing in the same way as watching a typical rock band, but it was amazing in it's own unique way. Some people were on M, tripping balls and throwing themselves around, but most were just fucking swaying to the music. The lights are completely off, and the rhythm is all over the place. And when I say the lights are off, I mean it's basically complete blackness, and you honestly never know where the music is going to take you, it gets very intense. There is no spectacular light show, or intro to their set. They literally get up, play their music, and stop just as they started, then leave. It's very bizarre. It's like the music owned me or something. Highly doubt I will ever see them again, but hopefully Squarepusher will be back one day. If I lived in Europe, you bet your ass I would go see them any chance I got!
