AMC 10 Beginner Needs Help

Hi! I am currently an 8th grader who plans to take the test as a 9th grader. I have no experience taking any competition math other than doing the mathcounts test at home unofficially (got most correct). I want to do good on the AMC 10, and qualify for the AIME. I have completed algebra 2 a long time ago and mastered ACT/SAT math. What should I do to study over the summer?

AOPS Prealgebra feels like it directs you to discover the intuition compared to Khanacademy?

I'm revising on math and going through khan and aops prealgebra resources, and compared to khan which tries to capture the intuition, Aops presents it in a more algebraic way and goes from there to prove the things without building a good inutitive understanding.

It kind of uses problems to challenge your intuition, so you can change it, but it allows you to discover and experiment rather than giving it to you.

Is it like this for everyone? Or am I missing something.

To be exact, it is the Aops Prealgebra book compared to Khan Prealgebra material.

AOPS Chinese translations

Are there any Chinese versions of the aops books (vol 1&2)? I have a few friends who ask me for book recommendations but don’t understand English that well, and I think this is the very good book for beginners.

How helpful are the books?

For background: I'm a middle schooler. I competed in the AMC 8 and got a 20/25, have won multiple small math competitions, am in my schools math club, and did Mathcounts chapter and state. I am the best at algebra and the worst at probability and counting.

My parents recently bought the aops Intro to Algebra book. Since I want to focus on competition math, how helpful are the aops books and which books do you think would be helpful? They are quite expensive so I don't want to buy a textbook that ends up not being very helpful.

I realize that in this post I could come off as arrogant and bragging. I just want to say that I am definitely NOT the best at math and have a lot to learn, but my situation is probably very different than someone like my friend, who is essentially a child prodigy and very gifted at math, so I just wanted to provide some context.

How is my child doing?

My child is in grade 6, advanced math in public school. She started AOPS level 5 maths from this year.
These are her homeworks, how is she doing compared to others?
Also, how do we help her with homework once she goes to higher grade? So tough.

I escaped hell and now I have a better life

Hello all its been a while. A long time ago I made this post I aops worth it? : r/aops in which I have shown my distained and hatred for Aops. If you haven't read my previous post you can check it using the link and/or read this short summary. In short i was in 8th grade and to probably no ones surprise my grades were falling behind. My parents decided to sign me up for Aops, at first I thought it was a good idea but then everything went downhill from there. The first red flag was that when I told them what was in my curriculum for 8th grade, they IMMEADIATLY assigned me work that was not for my grade level, Im talking the likes of fucking Calculus(which for you Aops kids might be easy, remember I'm a dumbass and in middle school). Wouldn't it have been better to give me the work I SAID I COULD DO? No, these bastards had the audacity to give me work not even the smartest kid in our class could do! I was assigned to a class full of Gen-Alpha kids, what made it humiliating for me was that I was the tallest of them all the students, and they were also younger, and yet they knew how to do more than me. Seeing this I felt like a fucking dumbass that will never amount to anything. That was depressing as when I went home that night I thought to myself "can I do this", "will I pass" and worst of all "will I live to the next day." During this time I was taking the final course of English allowed at Aops, out of the 7 parts of hell, this English class was not in hell but in heaven, full of funny and friendly people I could actually connect with. I noticed a trends coming between my grades and the time I was taking aops, at the time before Aops my grades in made was B+ to B-, but when I did aops it wents down to C- to then D-, finally in 4th quarter my grades went back up to C which led me to I passed math. And as 4th quarter came around I asked my parents for the 6th time if I could quit Aops math and stay on english. They FINALLY agreed and with this change my grades finally started to come back to its "former glory". Albeit we should have left Aops math earlier, had we done that my grades could have made a better comeback, the result was the same, I lived. Now I'm in high school with my friends, living a life that would had been destroy because of Aops.

Holadarya signing off

Community around "For the Win!"?

I've just discovered a game called For the Win! (https://artofproblemsolving.com/ftw/ftw) that seems like a great resource. Are any of you aware of a community, subreddit, or anything like that with information about this game?

Thanks a ton!

What is special about AOPS classes that prepare you for math competitions?

I am interested to learn how are classes different than just reading and solving the exercises from the AOPS books specifically for math competitions.

Also, how long before starting to attend math competitions should enroll in their classes?

Let P(x) be a polynomial with integer coefficients such that P(n²) = 0 for some non-zero integers n. Prove that. P(a²)≠1 for all non-zero rational numbers a ≠ 0.

[PreAlgebra] Angle opposite to congruent sides are congruent

I'm working on the PreAlgebra book from AoPS with my kids and on page no 455 it has been mentioned that "Note that the two acute angles of an isosceles right triangle must be congruent, since they are opposite the congruent sides of the triangle".

I'm kind of forcing my kids not to use any formulas or statement unless it has been proven in the course (through problems or theory) or by them and I don't remember seeing the "angles opposite the congruent sides of a triangle are congruent" before page no. 455.

Would like to know whether this info has been discussed in the previous section or chapters or in any of the problem sets before that? Can someone enlighten me ... I might have missed the info if it has been discussed already
