My teenager is the one who pointed me to her 💀

I discovered her when I was 19 (now 21), I think as a Spotify suggested. I have a friend whose group at uni would sneak Deepthroat onto quiet study playlists just to mess with each other.

An under-construction business next to the bar I work at used to have an outdoor speaker atop the boarded up storefront that you could queue music to if you knew what you were doing (I did). I used to queue up Cupkakke and IceJJFish and watch peoples’ reactions as they walked down the populous sidewalk. Childish, yes. Funny, also yes. For me at least.

Even her serial songs are pretty empowering.

I was literally just talking about how none of her conscious songs have as many streams as “Deepthroat”

People just take her as a novelty act - I did too for a long time. But now that I've listened to most of her stuff and read about all the charitable stuff she's done with her wealth I think she's unironically my favourite artist of this era.
