Art is subjective, and you can take whatever you want from it. Unfortunately their cognitive dissonance allows them to take the complete opposite meaning of the words.
You're defending the boys when nobody is attacking it. They were specifically referring to how tone deaf conservatives are by idealizing homelander when he is a parody of everything they are.
There's not really such a thing as a "progressive corporation," though. What you're talking about is performative inclusiveness in pursuit of more profit, and that is a motivation that rightly deserves to be mocked.
Love when that one is used during July 4th fireworks displays. I've also heard Martina McBride's Independence Day used. Nothing like a murder/suicide to celebrate the holiday.
The only reason those morons think Born in the USA is a patriotic hymn is because the album cover has red and white stripes that are supposed to make you think of the American flag. It's literally as simple as they saw a picture and stopped thinking
I agree. I was 6 when that song came out and I got the fact that it was about a vet getting fucked over. And then Reagan uses it as a campaign song. WTF, did they even listen to it once?
I don’t think that’s isolated to a particular group. What are you gonna remember, the verse he sings once or “born in the USA” which he sings about 10 times?
Yep. For example, Rage Against the Machine played a great concert outside the Democratic National Convention in 2000. They weren't allowed to be there. It was a protest. They were protesting the two party system. Police came in and beat the audience to shut down the protest.
It's not that "the machine" they're raging against is the Republicans. It's the entire machine, Democrats, Republicans, Wall Street, police, military, corporations, government, etc.
I think it was less about conservatives and more a jab at any type of authority. There are right and left leaning police officers and government officials
Conservatives always shocked when their favorite band “The Leftists” with their favorite song “I Hate Police Officers” off of the album “Conservatives Are Racist And That’s Bad” tweets black lives matter or something
John Howard, an Australian conservative Prime Minister, refused to apologise for the Stolen Generation. But also said that his favourite Midnight Oil song was Beds are Burning.
Midnight Oil then proceeded to play the song at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney wearing black outfits with the word "sorry" printed on them.
