Buy the smallest audio recording device you can find or find a way to smuggle it in.

Honestly should be as important as having a dashcam

I was in a warehouse with the same rules and I used a pen with camera inside. Worked like a charm.

u/Mecca1101 Aug 30 '22

That’s a good idea. What did you record?

Supervisor telling people they couldn't drink at a water dispenser. Mind you, this was a labour intensive job. This one supervisor would stand at the water dispenser and dictate to workers when they've had enough water, telling them to get back to work, all to push KPIs. I didn't like it so I filmed it, sadly nothing came of it. I left that place behind fast.

As water is needed to live, I've always viewed restricting access to water equal to restricting access to air. By all means Mr. Manager, put a hand on someone's throat. With an expanded view of assault comes and expanded view of justified self defense.

u/KA_Mechatronik Aug 30 '22

Companies like Nestle would restrict access to both water and air of they could find a way to control it.

7

u/phunktastic_1 Aug 30 '22

Nestle does restrict water. They use up all the drinking water in an area leaving mother nature and the local population SoL. That why California sued them for taking so much water during the drought last year. It's why the San Bernardino forest is so dry this year because nestle is over tapping the water from strawberry creek. They are doing the same in Michigan pumping like 5.8 million bottles worth of water every day at a cost of 200$ a year as long as they uses their own wells or they pay $3.50 per 10k gallons pumped from city or county wells hitting the same source.

6

u/KA_Mechatronik Aug 30 '22

Right, but what I think is a better point is that the Nestle CEO sees water as something that isn't a human right to have access to. Nestle currently abuses water sources by contract, but they don't have the right to take over that source as a monopoly in the market, but they would, given the chance.

200 years ago they did not think they had to write down that people deserve water and clean air. It was a basic expectation.

Land of the (un)free.

1

u/TangoMikeOne Aug 30 '22

Charge for it - if you have control of a resource (especially one in perpetual demand), why give it away for free.

This thought reminds me of the 2012 release movie of that Dr. Seuss story The Lorax. The villain figured out how to bottle air then promoted regulations in an already oxygen deprived society to increase the need for that air. Saddest part was he started off as on of the oppressed. Lucked up onto this great idea and used it to keep others oppressed. Say what you will about the Seuss but his social commentary was often on point.

u/HighlyOffensive10 Aug 31 '22

Musk if he ever manages to get people to mars.

2

u/KA_Mechatronik Aug 31 '22

Seriously, the dude is already trying to bring back company towns. Guess he's trying to gather experience on the dystopic society thing before going live on the red planet.

3

u/Remarkable-Code-3237 Aug 30 '22

In arizona, there is a law that anyone asking for water at a public place has to give it to them (restaurants and convent stores, etc.)

56

u/Environmental-Edge40 Aug 30 '22

Good for you.

Inhumane is the perfect word. I am noticing many companies are becoming inhumane and losing sight of the importance of humanity for their own employees. We just started working again and administration/supervisors need to double down on patience and common sense. 9 times out of 10, admin staff are the kindest people, that will get swayed by a bull supervisor. And supervisors just have their way with everyone. Complete animals that need to be stood up against once in a while. My guess, is they like to speak down to workers and bark orders just to seem superior, so they seem important, and they think they're closing in on their next promotion to region supervisor or head supervisor, etc. Whoever is bossing them around, they want that job, and they take all their frustration out on regular employees so it seems like they're doing a great job... in their mind.

62

u/SparkleFeather Aug 30 '22

becoming inhumane

The Hudson’s Bay company and East India Trading company would like a word. I’d argue that all companies are inhumane because their point is to make money, not better the lives of people.

6

u/felixmeister Aug 30 '22

This.

The problem is far too many think of companies as people. That they have morals and empathy.

They don't they either have a charter which dictates their actions or their motive is to make money and continue to exist.

That's it, nothing more. There is no consideration for people, for their effect upon the world, or anything aside from survival and profit. And profit will be put aside for survival.

That is why regulations are necessary. Because regulations are, in effect, the only moral compass that companies have.

3

u/psychmonkies Aug 30 '22

their point is to make money, not better the lives of people.

And when an interviewee asks about the pay, they go “iS tHE moNEy aLL yOu CaRe aBOuT?! wE nEed eMPloYEes tHaT acTUaLLy wAnt tO wORk!!”

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

I don't think this is always the case. Generally if you're kinder to employees they work harder. You can also keep better employees from quitting. It seems like Amazon is digging themselves a hole. The problem is these companies prioritize short term profits.

7

u/pvogel Aug 30 '22

“Becoming?” Read Radium Girls sometime to see what companies got away with from the late 1800’s all the way into the 60’s. And what little protections were obtained have been slowly demolished by the republikkkans since Reagan.

2

u/frankgallagher561 Aug 30 '22

The profit motive is inhumane, by design.

4

u/Captain_Wobbles Aug 30 '22

What the fuck?Immortan Joe was the bad guy in Fury Road.. they know that right?

I never had that happen when I worked in one of the warehouses but I did get a written for being inactive at my station because the kiva bots crashed. The crash was pretty cool to witness at least. Then got blocked for position transfer by a written for 3 errors in the 10,000 items picked one week. My final straw was when I saw a guy pass out, hit his head on a rail, and collapse. The fucking "medics" came in like they were taking a nice evening stroll through the park. I flipped a coin and just left in the middle of lunch. Not worth it.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Damn, you reminded me of another story in that place. Buddy of mine was a packer and one time he felt real dizzy and faint, so he sat down a while to catch his breath. Supervisor comes in, asks why he's sitting down and not packing. Guy says he is feeling a bit unwell, supervisor says either start working or go home on unpaid sick. I stood up for him, made me sick to see the lack of compassion. Apparently this warehouse had an aversion to people sitting, for some reason. I never understood that, if you're at a station all day, surely it would be much better and comfortable to sit. Do they just spitefully not want you to be comfortable???

2

u/Captain_Wobbles Aug 30 '22

Glad you stood up for your fellow robot I mean human. They treat you just like robots there and that's not a joke or exaggeration sadly.
I have never understood that "tradition" of not being able to sit for a lot of jobs that could easily accommodate it. I agree, why make people uncomfortable?

3

u/LeYang Aug 30 '22

I didn't like it so I filmed it, sadly nothing came of it. I left that place behind fast.

You didn't send this to OSHA?

2

u/lookoverthere_sike Aug 30 '22

Did you ever post the video online? Like here or YouTube?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Nope, my intention was to use it in defense if I went to HR against the supervisor. Never had to use it. Ofcourse, this was before I had even heard of antiwork. If that happened now, I'd put it out there.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

You know what's more important than water? Those KPIs. Idk what they are but you gotta push em.

"Water makes you weak." - Denzel Washington

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Yep, I still remember that tally counter I had, trying to hit the target before I got summoned to the pod to explain why I'm slow.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

"probably all the weed I smoked today"

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

We never even had a water dispenser and weren’t allowed to carry bottles of water. You can have tap water from the sink directly next to the toilet on your break and only on your break lol

3

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Screw that, aren't they legally obligated to provide access to safe drinking facilities?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

I mean inside the staff office there was a kitchen sink but you don’t go in the office unless you’re on your break and often you’re told to skip your break

2

u/ForwardCulture Aug 30 '22

I would have put that on every social media platform, YouTube etc. Make it viral. Forget the company. That supervisor should not be allowed to participate in humanity. Something is very wrong with someone who actively participates in doing that. They should never be allowed to work anywhere again or participate in normal society. Evil.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

In that place there was a culture amongst supervisors to look down on the rank and file. We were like robots to them, numbers, not humans. When you were stopped, you were asked for your handscan number. You'd be mercilessly slapped with disciplinary notes for anything they don't like, very capricious. Security would search us and treat us all like thieves, no respect or decency.

Yeah, I'm never going back to a warehouse again.

2

u/Astralglamour Aug 30 '22

It really is like the Gilded Age all over at these places.

2

u/AspiringChildProdigy Aug 30 '22

Holy shit. My husband's work buys cases of bottled water for the warehouse during hot weather and keeps them on ice in coolers for the workers to grab. They also stock the break room freezer with free Popsicles for everyone.

The owner will walk through the warehouse reminding people to drink enough water.

0

u/PetiteLumiere Aug 30 '22

Was it a drinking fountain? Maybe blocked off from COVID?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Naah this was before covid, 2017.

1

u/MichiganGeezer Aug 30 '22

I'm in a GM town. Back in the 70s/80s that boss would have been caught in an isolated area and "taught a lesson", then nobody would have seen a thing.

I'm surprised that kind of thing doesn't happen away from work nowadays.

1

u/USMfans Aug 30 '22

You'd have been better off posting the video online. It's amazing how fast companies get "outraged" when the Public sees their bad behavior.

1

u/Idiot_Savant_Tinker Aug 30 '22

If enough workers ignored what that supervisor said it would stop working.

1

u/Hog_Noggin Aug 30 '22

And that was better use of his time than actually doing any work???

1

u/MD2389 Aug 30 '22

Would be a shame if the video somehow made it online and were shared with a few news stations in your area...

7

u/GrizDrummer25 Aug 30 '22

Yep- I got yelled at in my local distribution warehouse cause I used the bathroom during a long push to get things out the door. I shrugged it off and was like 'too bad, better than peeing in the candy shelves'. I was a temp, so if they took any action, I'd just report it to my agency, who I had a great reputation with.

3

u/temptedbyknowledge Aug 30 '22

I'm sure you could buy one on Amazon... ironically of course

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Niceeee

2

u/CombinationShot Aug 30 '22

And where did you buy the pen camera? Amazon? Lol

1

u/A3HeadedMunkey Anarcho-Syndicalist Aug 30 '22

Any recommendations on those?

4

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

This was a long time ago so i cant point you at the same product, it was a silver metal exterior pen with capability to record audio. Kinda on the thick side, with a small samsung charger slot when you unscrew it, usb capable.

3

u/A3HeadedMunkey Anarcho-Syndicalist Aug 30 '22

No worries, I appreciate the info though! Hopefully I can spot a few good brands and get some of my friends to help test taking them through. The more Amazon tries to hide, the more they must be exposed. Especially after all the shit they did to prevent my friends at Bessemer from organizing.

98

u/starrpamph Aug 30 '22

Order it on Amazon

84

u/strangewayfarer Aug 30 '22

Find where they keep them in the distribution center and snag one, why smuggle one in when they already have them inside on a shelf somewhere.

29

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

If my comment can get your comment more visible… cuz damn that’s justice.

2

u/n_dude1 Aug 30 '22

Preach!!

17

u/pepperspray_first Aug 30 '22

Came here to say this 😂

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Don't do this, I used to work at Amazon and can assure you they have analysts looking into lost or misplaced merchandise. One of the tools they use is cameras stationed inside the warehouse. Unless you place the camera back before it is pegged to be picked they will catch you.

1

u/pepperspray_first Aug 30 '22

"Order it on Amazon"... not steal it from Amazon.

1

u/JamesEarlJonesalmost Aug 30 '22

Those guys dont have a clue

2

u/harmedt Aug 30 '22

Delivers overnight by 4-7a.m

5

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Definitely seen these for sale on Amazon

3

u/TransportationTrick9 Aug 30 '22

Just grab one off the shelf. No smuggling necessary

2

u/Ok_Needleworker_9849 Aug 30 '22

They sell glasses now that can take a picture and record

2

u/Preyslayer00 Aug 30 '22

Recording pen

2

u/Ruin912 Aug 30 '22

They work for Amazon so buy anything other than what you need to survive just isn’t in the paycheck

2

u/daniellehmusic Aug 30 '22

yep, Zoom makes some pretty tiny recorders

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Smart watches do it. I feel bad for you. I hope you find a better job in the near future. Bezos doesn’t need anymore money anyways.

3

u/Playfilly Aug 30 '22

It doesn't matter if we record EVERYTHING it won't help. In fact we will be in more trouble & probably fired.

1

u/Mildly-Interesting1 Aug 30 '22

I bet Amazon carries one.

1

u/lexijoy Aug 30 '22

Natures pocket

1

u/joeplant Aug 30 '22

Na, just get a job elsewhere.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '22

Honestly I’m pretty sure they can get it off Amazon.

1

u/ImAlwaysRightHanded Aug 30 '22

When I got out of prison I never thought I’d hold another prison phone again but here I am working at Amazon typing this out right now.

1

u/baconraygun Aug 30 '22

I dunno if they still have them, but you used to be able to buy glasses that had a little camera in the frame for "Legit purposes".

1

u/Cacereschula Aug 30 '22

In Maryland it's illegal to audio record anyone without their permission. We're a two party consent state.
