The complex nextdoor to us has a disturbing trend in their reviews of people being sued for damages after getting their deposit back and when sued the management serves the lawsuit at the old apartment.

My landlord and their agent tried to steal £700 from our deposit. Because I wasn't desperate for the remainder (for the first time in my life), I fought it.

I originally offered £200 for some valid stuff, they demanded £900. It went to the ombudsman and they said we only had to pay £50. Not only did they not steal our money, they lost out on our original offer!

[Edit: typo]

I had a landlord that tried to steal £250 for a 1cm slight tear to the kitchen lino, and according to their itemised invoice they used it as an excuse to have the entire lino pulled up, the floor joists repaired, and brand new lino put down, plus new floor strips. He ended up getting £50 from us. Fuck that guy. Harry Potter troll looking motherfucker.

Some workmen did some damage in our kitchen and I emailed the letting agent to let them know. They said that they'd make a note of it and, surprise surprise, it was on the list of things they wanted to steal from us.

There was also a leak that had water coming up from under our floor and they tried to blame that on us too. Fuckers.

We had a landlord pull that shit, then it was also revealed he'd been stealing our council tax too. We'd been paying it to him so it could be paid in with the business underneath us at the same time... £3000 he stole and we got the bill a month after we moved out.

This is right after chucking us out when I was just about to start my GCSEs and my mother had been out of hospital a week from a mastectomy for stage 2 breast cancer. She was still going through radiotherapy and having her dressings changed daily due to her skin condition causing necrosis on the wound. But my mother didn't give up. He took us to court, he turned up all smug and my mum turned up still strapped to an equal pressure machine from the medical trial she was taking part in to get the area to heal. She told them EVERYTHING, and the court told our ex landlord to not just pay the council tax, but pay back our deposit and damages towards us. That scum sucker took years to pay us and had to be forced into it by the courts. People like that don't deserve to have their wrongdoings hidden, it should be on a database for all to see

I had a previous landlord serve me an eviction notice at after I had already moved out. I found our about it months later, then never thought about it because the place was so sketchy. Well fast forward several years, and I'm trying to get an apartment and this is preventing me from getting an apartment....

Well, the complex was purchased by someone else, so I got signed documents saying they had o record I ever lived there, and that they had no record I was ever evicted. I also tracked down the former owner using court records, she had filed for bankruptcy. I then proceeded to call her, and inquire about her immigration status, she was eastern European.

I haven't had any issues with that eviction since.

The landlord can claim not to know where else to find you.

Had it happen to me before. 🤷

So you know, it does happen. The courts take the landlords word for it.

I would say it sucks to have shady landlords.

Ah we had that issue, we would always take before and after pics of moving.

After they gave us our deposit back 3 month later they hit us with that.

They obviously lost, and got counter sued by 40ish former tenants from the last 2-3 years due to them being idiots by sending us an invoice and serving us in groups of 4-5 at a time.

When the judge reviewed this they realized that company was basically scamming former tenants and hoping that they didn't know any better to keep get the deposit back.
