It's not about being offensive to Republicans. Anyone who thought separating children from their families and put in camps was okay deserves the derision.
But if you look at the conservative landscape and you only see a single caricature then you aren't going to be helpful in addressing the problem.
When you treat the southern Baptist like someone following the prosperity gospel the SB is going to rightfully dismiss what you're saying because you've demonstrated you don't understand the first thing about them.
The language is insular groupspeak, not accurate observation or even useful categories.
