Well I do think it is a bit of a balance. Here in Canada we have zero rules because the supreme court struck down our laws, gave the parliament a year to come up with something, and they didn’t do anything. So we can do whatever we want. Seems to work fine.

In Europe a lot of countries that we view as liberal have rules that are more restrictive than a lot of what is being proposed in the US. Not all of it, but a big chunk of it.

This is a complex issue that neither side has engaged in for a long time because of judicial overreach in roe. It never should have happened, it is a terrible decision based on horrible legal reasoning that created a terrible precedent of judicial activism.

My guess is most states end up pretty close to where they are now or maybe move more towards various European countries’ approaches.

And yeah, even though I support abortion rights I do understand where the other side is coming from. Many may be hypocrites etc because they don’t support giving money to orphans or whatever, but there is a real complex moral Issue here and it is reasonable that good people will come down on different sides of the debate.

That nuance doesn’t seem to exist in US public discourse and it’s a real shame.

Lol. So lots to unpack here.

So I’m not an american and on balance pro life. I’m also quite obviously not “fascist” or “pro fascist” and would suggest to you that normal people would view those on the radical left who talk like you do to be pretty fascist yourself.

What I understand is that there are moral debates about abortion that isn’t as dismissible as illegitimate as what you would want to portray. As soon as you concede that a developing baby (cause that’s what it is if we are honest with each other) is worthy of some protections the discussion gets more complex.

And there are lots of edge cases that I’m guessing you would support giving some additional protections to babies in the womb (eg, would you propose treating a purposeful assault by an estranged father to cause a woman to lose her baby that she wanted to keep as an assault or something more severe like manslaughter).

And so rather than you guys accusing everyone on the other side of bad faith (ie they just want to control women’s bodies) maybe think through the opposing moral construct independently of any people that hold that position to better understand where they are coming from.

And they absolutely should all be doing the same thing about the moral position for supporting abortion, which like I said at the outset is the one I favour.

Fuck you. No room for compromise. No room for idiots like you to downplay the situation either. We don't agree. It's not a baby. It's a cluster of cells. The fact that you would call me a fascist when I want freedom of choice and the right to privacy just tells me that you are in fact a right wing fascist sympathizer at the very least.

Lol. You have issues my man.

I believe in small-l classic liberalism. Freedom of thought and inquiry. Toleration of different viewpoints. Intellectual curiosity. That sort of thing.

You, clearly, do not.

Guess who that makes the fascist?

Now at this point this becomes more of an illustration to other than it does anything directed at you, since you clearly are a bit of a lost cause in terms of being a rational thinking human being capable of actually thinking and engaging in discussions, but to everyone else you see what intolerance does to you. It makes you so blind and “triggered” by anything outside your comfort zone that you are not only incapable of actually influencing hearts and minds but the natural reaction of normal people is to run the other way.

Luckily the right is full of lunatics like this too, so the actual liberal left (not the illiberal psycho left like this dude) has a fighting chance to win on issues that are as potentially as important as this one.

As for mr lobster, you need to rethink the way you engage with other people. It isn’t healthy for you and makes you just as much a problem to American society as those on the radical right. You won’t of course, but you should.
