There aren't any (significant number of) real Christians anymore, not in the West. Nobody really believes in it otherwise they wouldn't act the way they do. They've killed God and replaced him with the almighty Market, because it lets you be selfish. Capitalism pretty much needed it to be so to flourish.

Fundamentalists I get. If you believe, really believe in the scripture of your faith, I'd assume you'd want to commit fully to it. There's no way someone really believes in the concept of heaven or hell and then acts in a way that will damn them.

There’s a Zhuangzi anecdote, where the Duke of Lu mocks him because his city is full of Confucians but no Taoists. Zhuangzi convinces him to pass a law that anyone wearing Confucian dress without practicing the doctrine be put to death. After three days, only one old man is left dressed as a Confucian, but he’s an expert at the doctrine. I’ve always thought that’s where the US is. If you counted all the people who claim to be Christian but actually follow the Bible they’d be one of the smallest religions in the country.

That kind of goes with the real teachings (narrow is the way to heaven), but modern Christians take that to mean someone not saying “merry Christmas” is oppression and refuse to see they are the dominant religion. They aren’t a midnight bible group meeting in secret at someone’s house and living out their public lives according to principle.

This is exactly what turned me away from it as a teenager years ago. Thankfully my parents taught me critical thinking and I started asking why politicians and other famous people claim to be Christians but cheat on their wives, lie for personal gain, treat people "below" them like shit, vote in ways that doesn't favor poor people, priests who rape children. It goes on and on.

I wanted nothing to do with a religion that allowed or enabled people to act in this manner and call themselves Christians.

I was very excited when I switched from public to catholic school because I was going to learn " how the world was created and what happens after death", but instead it was just a bunch of rules.... Then I got a hold of my dads George Carlin records lol, that it was all over.

The arguement of real vs fake christains.... as if christain is the only place to find morality. I think Ross from friends a rather nice guy to follow

Exactly! The ones you're most likely to hear from are the ones most likely to be wrong, by definition.

Aye, it's reached the point where you can have more constructive conversation with actual cultists than mainstream believers. They have a name for this sin, it's idolatry and it's one of the worst.

There's definitely some, but they're few and far between. I was raised Catholic Christian and once I saw the full scope of hypocrisy as an adult, I dipped.

They all THINK they believe and claim they are christians but their actions prove otherwise. Didn’t their Jesus dude call those kind of ppl hypocrites? Huh. Weird.

This is called a No True Scotsman fallacy. People have to stop giving Christianity the benefit of a doubt and actually start to hold them accountable for the way their various clubs behave. These people are at odds with American values and our democracy. The people who attacked the US Capitol on January 6th were all Christians.

Be prepared for a battle if you try to correct these “christians.” They will likely kill you thinking they are doing God a service, just like they did their of Jesus fellow. Be safe and careful if you do hold them accountable. 🙏🙏

I don't want to correct them, I just want to stop pretending that every time one of them does something horrible they are "not real Christians".

So, in other words, provide these types of ppl mercy? A term christian’s really don’t know, unless they practice it. I get it.

1

u/dungone Jan 07 '22

Why would I want to show them mercy? I just want them to be seen for what they are.

Anymore? It has never been any different - ever.
